A sixteenth century dinosaur
At first glance, the strange animal pictured on the left looks like a small theropod dinosaur — or at any rate, a rather cartoony caricature of one. The giant salamander theory at Loch Ness
This is mostly here as a footnote. At the time that the “Monster” was breaking into news in 1933, local fishermen, boat-workers, dockmen and sailors allowed there had been scuttlebut there was a “Salamander” in the Loch which had been told of from time to time. Rupert T Gould eventually came to the theory that the Loch Ness Monster was a gigantic longnecked newt, which can be related to Charles Gould’s earlier theory that the Sea-serpent was a giant salamander, citing the Chinese giant salamander as the model to build the theory on…

UFO Flap in Kansas City, Missouri

An unusual amount of UFO activity in the Kansas City area in April and May, 2011, has prompted a serious investigation by the Missouri Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

MUFON Missouri Assistant State Director Margie Kay has received reports from multiple witnesses who saw UFOs, orange orbs, and an entity.

The following press release was issued by Missouri MUFON.

May 18, 2011 Kansas City, Missouri

A large number of calls were received at the MUFON office by Margie regarding orange orbs and a large silver UFO on the evening of May 14 and the early morning hours of May 15. The sightings occurred during a 9 1/2 hour period from 7 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday. Some of the reports were filed at mufon.com.

A 7-year-old was riding in a car with his mother on Highway 635 headed south in Kansas City North at 7 p.m. on May14. He told his mother that he saw a large, round orange colored UFO moving in the clouds. The mother is a UMKC University professor and a member of the Kansas City chapter of MUFON.

Orange balls of light were spotted East of I-435 southbound at Gregory Boulevard (Raytown) low in the tree line, going from north to south at 9:30 p.m. on May 14. Witnesses pulled over to the side of the highway to watch. The objects appeared to be shooting out of something at about 90 mph, then slowed to about 50 mph. All then rose into the clouds and disappeared. There were approximately 125 of these orbs appearing in a half-our period, according to a local insurance agent and a friend who witnessed the objects.  Another witness, who was called by one of the men watching the scene from I-435, claims to have photos taken from his house.

A woman saw a lighted craft just above the clouds on Saturday night, May 14 at approximately 10:32 PM over Independence, MO, South of 39th Street and Lee’s Summit Rd headed in a NW-SE direction. It was not defined and difficult to see – only the large bright circular white light was clearly visible.

A very large Grey metallic saucer-shaped craft with a dome and one large horizontal long light and two smaller lights on the side was sighted in Lee’s Summit, MO at 4:00 AM Sunday morning, May 15. Seven witnesses reported a similar craft. One witness to the event also reports seeing Apache helicopters, fully armed, circling Lee’s Summit and Blue Springs for 7 days before this sighting. None were in the area at the time of the sighting.

Additionally, several reports were received in the month of April, including a sighting by a retired Raytown, Missouri police officer who saw a 50-foot triangular craft hoovering over his back yard in the early morning hours, and a 4′ tall green color entity standing 50 feet away from him near a fence.  The witness had two hours of missing time.

Low-flying orange orbs shoot overhead

Alien probes or something els altogether?

Several Missouri witnesses traveling southbound on I-435 stopped to observe as many as 125 low-flying, orange objects that moved up from the tree line and traveled away at about the speed of a helicopter, according to May 16, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

All of the objects moved in from the north low on the horizon and then moved south – each object splitting into five smaller objects – before moving into cloud cover.

“As they spread and slowly began to disappear into the clouds above (low ceiling), a larger and brighter orange object at a faster speed, about 1-2 degrees above the horizon, behind the tree line, and then as it started to ascend, split into five smaller orange objects, again radical in flight, without formation, and slowly ascended into the cloud cover,” the reporting witness stated. “This occurred about 20 times over a 25 minute span. They all came from the North (low on horizon) to South and then turning toward the East and then into cloud cover.”

The event occurred over a 25-minute period and stopped after the largest object was seen – also splitting into five smaller objects.

“At one time, I observed over 15 in the sky at one time. At approx 9:58 p.m., the largest ball at a faster speed flew, split into 5 smaller objects, they followed the same path as the previous objects, and then the event seemed to stop. There were other vehicles on the shoulder of the highway observing this event. I got one person’s name and phone, and the next day he related that he talked to another individual who also saw this phenomenon.”

The witness also observed a “jerky motion” to the objects

“Once they all rose above the treeline, I would approximate their speed at approximately that of a helicopter. But the jerky motion didn’t make sense, and the coloration from a side view made no sense, as the sun had been down for over an hour and the low altitude above the eastern horizon would pretty much rule out solar reflection. I would guess that over the period that I observed these objects, there were approximately 125 of them.”

No town name was mentioned in the MUFON report, which was filed on May 16, 2011. The event occurred on April 13, 2011.

Missouri MUFON reports that Chinese Lanterns have been ruled out in this case due to the observed speed of the objects. “A second witness is sending me photos from their cell phone,” Assistant State Director Margie Kay stated. “A third witness cannot be reached but was at the scene. I am obtaining a photograph of the orange orbs from one witness.” In addition to the above report, the following two cases occurred over the weekend in Missouri.

10:30 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011: Anonymous witness called me today: She saw a lighted craft just above the clouds on Saturday night at approximately 10:32 p.m. over Independence, MO, South of 39th Street and Lee’s Summit Road headed in a NW-SE direction. It was not defined and difficult to see – only the large bright circluar white light was clearly visible.

4 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011: A very large Grey metallic saucer-shaped craft with a dome and one large horizontal long light and two smaller lights on the side was sighted in Lee’s Summit, MO, on Sunday morning at 4 a.m. Five witnesses saw this. One was a designated driver (he failed to put that in the report) and was not drinking. The others had been drinking at a bar earlier but he assures me that they were not drunk at the time of the sighting. He and his wife also report seeing Apache helicopters, fully armed, circling Lee’s Summit and Blue Springs for 7 days before this sighting. None were seen at the time of the sighting. Note: my secretary lives in Blue Springs and said she has heard the helicopters as well. Lee’s Summit Regional Airport is a small airport and not normally a place where military helicopters are sighted.

Missouri is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating, with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. Missouri had 6 UFO reports in April 2011 – while California had 46 sightings, the highest reporting state in the nation.

You can read more details about other recently reported cases at the UFO Examiner home page. The most up-to-date UFO information can be heard at web radio show UFO Traffic Report  every Wednesday, 9 – 10:30 p.m. EST, which includes a UFO Witness Testimony Program segment, and an update of the UFO ALERT national rating system. Past shows are available at the Archive page.

The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade.

MO, April 13, 2011 – Multiple waves of 5 orange/low to high trajectory. MUFON Case # 29106.

Travelling S.B. on I-435 when five orange objects in Eastern sky caught my eye. I stopped to observe this phenomena, as they flew slowly, albeit radical, at about 20 degrees above horizon.

As they spread and slowly began to disappear into the clouds above (low celing), a larger and brighter orange object at a faster speed, about 1-2 degrees above the horizon, behind the treeline, and then as it started to ascend, split into five smaller orange objects, again radical in flight, without formation, and slowly ascended into the clould cover.

This occurred about 20 times over a 25 minute span. They all came from the North (low on horizon) to South and then turning toward the East and then into cloud cover.

At one time, I observed over 15 in the sky at one time. At approx 9:58 PM, the largest ball at a faster speed flew, split into 5 smaller objects, they followed the same path as the previous objects, and then the event seemed to stop. There were other vehicles on the shoulder of the highway observing this event. I got one persons name and phone, and the next day he related that he talked to another individual who also saw this phenomenon.

Once they all rose above the treeline, I would approximate their speed at approx. that of a helicopter. but the jerky motion didn’t make sense, and the coloration from a side view made no sense, as the sun had been down for over an hour and the low altitude above the eastern horizon would pretty much rule out solar reflection.

I would guess that over the period that I observed these objects, there were approximately 125 of them. I do not do drugs/drink/or subject to illusions. I am observant, logical, and well educated. This happened, it was unexplainable, and a bit spooky.

AS this event lasted so long, with so many objects, I would presume that radar somewhere would have picked this up. If possible, I would like an explanation from some tower or authority trying to explain this to me. The initial speed of these objects at low altitude seemd to be about 100-120 KPH, but during ascent appeared to slow to around 60-80KPH. The wind was about 15 knots, which Might contribute to some of the uneveness of flight, but probably not.

Synchronized UFOs

Argentina: “Synchronized UFOs” Over The Sanborombón River
By Sebastian Aranguren

An amateur fisherman witnessed the maneuvers of three unidentified objects over the banks of the Samborombón River near the town of Ferrari, Buenos Aires. Researchers consider this event important due to the synchronization of the UFOs movements, which according to the protagonist of the extraordinary adventure, even acted as if aware of his lonely presence in the darkness of the early morning hours. The episode, investigated by the Fundación Argentina de Ovnilogia (FAO) took place on April 3, 2010 when Sergio Asselborn, a veterinarian from the city of Quilmes, was engaged in one of his hobbies – fishing – in a spot chosen for many years: the Samborombón River, at a spot located over an iron bridge some 30 km from National Highway 2. It was a two o’clock in the morning when Asselborn, as the veterinarian told FAO researchers, underwent a life-changing experience: a buzzing sound similar to that of a beehive prompted him to look up, causing him to see something he had never seen in many years of fishing trips to the site. A plate-shaped UFO was in the sky, surrounded by small orange and red lights that outlined its contour. If something drew the witness’s attention, it was that the object was coming toward him, stopping in a series of repetitive movements that lasted approximately half an hour.

Another element was added after this time period: a second triangular object assumed a vertical position to the left of the first UFO, firing off a series of luminous signals that Asselborn described as bursts, as a prelude to what would be a sudden departure into the dark of the night. However, there was still more: a third UFO, with a structure similar to the first, appeared on the scene and was still in the sky, within the witness’s visual field. It remained at some 1500 feet over Asselborn’s position and flew over the countryside, rising and falling until it vanished behind a mill and a eucalyptus forest.

From that moment onward, the fisherman was entranced by the first UFO, which never ceased to be visible to the witness, who got into his car and watched the slow maneuvers of the object for two hours, after which it approached his vehicle as though getting ready to observe him. Thus, after being stationary for five minutes, the object acquired sudden speed, vanishing into the southeast, turning into a small luminous dot, followed by the second of the objects that was part of the phenomenon and which had been outside the fisherman’s field of vision for the moment. The mysterious spectacle ended nearly at daybreak. Days later, Asselborn contacted members of the FAO, and a week later, a team consisting of Luis Burgos, Fernando Mengui, Miguel Peralta and Roberto Castillo combed the area, which is a UFO hotspot. So many cases have occurred here over the past 50 years that Burgos himself has been moved to refer to it as “the Argentinean nest.”

Salt Lake City: Haunted and full of mystery

Interesting locations focus: Salt Lake City, Utah

Home to things that go bump in the night!

Salt lake City: Home to ghosts, monsters, crop circles and UFO’s!

Nestled in a valley between Utah’s Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch Mountains, Salt Lake City has its share of paranormal phenomena: lake monsters, ghosts, Bigfoot, UFOs, mystery spots and mystic visions. While you’re watching the Olympic hockey games, figure skating or curling events – or if you’re lucky enough to be visiting Salt Lake during the games – keep in mind the many strange goings-on taking place in and around this friendly desert city.

Born of Mystic Experiences

Salt Lake City was founded in 1847 by a group of pioneers led by Brigham Young, leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more familiarly known as the Mormons. Seeking a place where they could practice their religion free of ridicule and persecution, the Mormons found the valley ideal, and Salt Lake City today remains the headquarters of the church. The foundation of the Mormon religion, like many religions, is steeped in mysticism, miracles and visions. According to Mormon history, in 1820, a 14-year-old boy named Joseph Smith, while praying for spiritual guidance in a grove of trees near his home in Palmyra, New York, beheld a vision of both God and Jesus Christ. In this vision, Smith was told that his destiny was to restore the true church of Jesus Christ. Over the next 10 years, Smith claimed to have been visited by several other “heavenly messengers,” including the angel Moroni, who presented him with golden tablets in a strange, Egyptian-like language that contained the Book of Mormon – “another testament of Jesus Christ.” The Mormon church formally organized in 1830, and today its officials continue to make official church policy through revelations directly from God.

Ghosts and Hauntings

Salt Lake City and surrounding towns have no shortage of ghosts and hauntings:

  • A book store in Ogden, a small city north of Salt Lake, is said to be haunted by several spirits. The Utah Ghost Hunters Society says it is one of the most haunted locations they have ever investigated, and they have recorded many EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) there.
  • A Victorian-style house, also in Ogden, is filled with classic haunting phenomena: cold spots, unexplained footsteps, fleeting shadows and fearful reactions to certain rooms by dogs. EVPs, including one from a voice calling herself “Olivia,” were also captured here.
  • The old Utah County Jail, a facility that is now abandoned, has been the site of such anomalous activity as: lights going on and off by themselves, doors opening and closing, and even voices emanating from the now-empty cells. One EVP recorded here warns: “Get out of here!” A video clip shows an orb floating around one room of the jail.
  • The Capital Theater in downtown Salt Lake City is the site of several ghost accounts. Allegedly, an usher was killed there in a fire in the 1940s. Since then, lights switch on an off, doors lock and unlock themselves, toilets flush unattended and a Coke machine exhibits strange behavior. The Utah Ghost Organization has recorded EVPs and video there.
  • The residents of a private home in Holladay, Utah have reported such activity as: an organ playing by itself, phantom footsteps in an upstairs room, motion alarms that are inexplicably triggered, disembodies voices and the eerie feeling of being watched.
  • Promontory Point, Utah is famed for the spot where the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad were joined in 1869, forming the Transcontinental Railroad that linked the eastern and western U.S. One of the main workers’ camps at Dove Creek, once inhabited by Chinese laborers, is said to be haunted by unusual phenomena: a phantom steam locomotive, ghostly voices (in Chinese) and footsteps, and unexplained lights.
  • The Brigham Young Forest Farm House is part of a restored Mormon pioneer settlement, called Old Deseret, in Salt Lake. Some claim that the home is still haunted by Brigham Young’s 14th wife (the Mormons were a polygamous group in those days), Ann Eliza Webb. Staff members at this tourist attraction have reported the apparition of a woman in the dining room, staring out the window. Doorknobs rattle, footsteps trod the wooden floors, smells of cooking are in the air, and the voices of children playing can be heard.
  • The Old City and County Building is a site of repeated ghostly phenomena: giggling and apparitions of children on the fourth floor, unexplained temperature fluctuations, doors slamming, lights flicking off and on, and footsteps. One security officer claimed his hand was grabbed by some unseen entity.

One legendary ghost story concerns one of the first grave diggers ever employed by Salt Lake City, John Baptiste. Known as a hard worker, Baptiste lived in a small two-room house and was said to live comfortably – perhaps too comfortably for a man of his station. After many years, it was discovered that Baptiste had been stealing the clothing and other affects of the bodies he buried. Tried and convicted, he was branded and exiled to an island on the Great Salt Lake. When officials later visited the island to check on him, Baptiste had vanished. It is unknown whether he took his own life or somehow escaped the island, but stories persist of his ghost being seen on the shores of the lake – clutching a bundle of wet, rotted clothing.

You can find more information about these and other Salt Lake hauntings at:

Lake Monsters

Loch Ness in Scotland, home of Nessie, and Lake Champlain in the U.S., home of Champ, may be two of the most well-known residences of alleged lake monsters. But the Salt Lake City area has its own legendary sea serpents.

Bear Lake, located northeast of Salt Lake City on the Utah-Idaho border, is a popular recreation spot for boating, fishing and camping. The stunning turquoise-colored lake, known as the “Caribbean of the Rockies,” is also home to large, snake-like monsters that have been spotted for generations. The Shoshoni Indians may have been the first people to see the creature. Describing it as serpentine with short legs, tribe members claimed to have seen the Bear Lake Monster spurt water and to occasionally crawl ashore. It was even seen to snatch unwary swimmers in its jaws and carry them away beneath the surface, according to their stories. The Shoshoni said the monster might have left the lake after the area buffalo disappeared in the 1820s.

Yet, sightings by others persisted:

  • Reputable pioneer families reputedly saw the creature. In 1860, Marion Thomas and Phineas Cook’s two sons were out fishing on the lake when the monster surfaced. They said it swam so close to their boat that “they might have shot it with a rifle.”
  • In 1871, Milando Pratt and Thomas Rich actually did shoot at it, but it just swam away.
  • William Budge, a wagon train captain, reported his encounter with the monster to Brigham Young himself in 1874. About 20 yards from shore, the creature poked its head out of the water, Budge said. “Its face and part of its head were distinctly seen, covered with fur, or short hair of a light snuff color.” He further described it as flat-faced with “very full large eyes, prominent ears” and a neck of about four to five feet in length.

A more recent sighting was in 1946 when Preston Pond, an executive for the Cache Valley Boy Scout, gave such a highly detailed description of his encounter that it was difficult to dismiss. Hey, scouts don’t lie.

Several attempts have been made to capture the monster. After Budge reported his sighting, Brigham Young enlisted Phineas Cook to devise a plan to catch it. He linked a 300-foot length of one-inch-thick rope to a cable at the end of which he fastened a large barbed hook. A hunk of mutton was skewered on the hook as bait. The lure was then dropped into the lake with a buoy to mark its location. The ploy was attempted several times, and each time the hook was stripped of its bait, the pioneers assumed, by the clever monster. One tall tale blames the monster for crawling ashore and eating 20 of rancher Aquila Nebeker’s sheep… and, possibly, a large roll of barbed wire. The real thief was no doubt grateful for the monster legend.

Bigfoot

Yes, Bigfoot stomps around the wilderness areas of Utah, too. In fact there are as many Bigfoot or Sasquatch sightings in Utah as there are in Oregon and Washington. This is just a small sampling of reported sightings:

  • In 1977, two experienced hikers were leading five others along a trail in the mountains north of Ogden when they spotted a creature that stood eight to 10 feet tall and sported a mantle of white fur. They watched it for 20 minutes.
  • In 1979, a husband and wife were elk hunting near Monte Cristo, east of Ogden, when they heard a strange noise and smelled a four odor. Shortly thereafter, the wife spotted a “hairy thing, with fangs” at water hole through the telescopic sight of her rifle.
  • In 1980, an small-airplane pilot reported seeing a large, hairy creature trudging through the deep snow of the High Uintas.
  • In 1981, the police chief of Garland, Box Elder County, saw a creature run in front of his car. Several other residents also reported sightings, and tracks were found that led in a northwest direction.
  • In 1988, ranchers near Garland reported seeing two Bigfoot-like creatures near their lambing pens after dark. Soon after, many tracks were found in the Garland area in deep snow and were followed for two miles.
  • Ron Mower, a construction worker, says he has seen Bigfoot nine times since 1968, one time at a distance of just about 30 feet.

Bigfoot has been seen so frequently in the Uintah mountains near Ogden that in September, 1977, a search party was organized to search for the creature. The hunt was put together, according to a newspaper account, after “two North Ogden men and six youths reported seeing the gorilla-like creature that ambled off into the timber after seeing them. The party was about one-half mile away on a ridge and watched the creature move off for about a one-half mile before it disappeared.” Unfortunately, the expedition turned up no conclusive evidence. Yet many more sightings in this area have been reported. In fact, one newspaper item “warned” that things could get “hairy” for Olympic skiers at the Snowbasin ski resort because they’ll be “treading on Bigfoot’s turf.”

Some researchers have even wondered if there is a Mormon connection to Bigfoot, which may be associated with “a spirit of ‘intrigue’ with evil and the devil, demons, and evil spirits only invites such influences.”

Crop Circles

Utah might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about crop circles, but they’re there:

  • In 1996, a crop circle that became known as the “glyph” appeared in a Providence wheat field. The design was a circle with two extended formations that looked like handles on either side.
  • “The Smithfield Joe” crop circle appeared in a wheat field on the Hansen farm in 1997. The formation was of the pictogram type, and an investigation revealed no evidence of human work. One photograph taken at the crop circle seems to show a UFO above the field.
  • In 1998, two crop circles appeared in northern Utah. The first, again in Providence, appeared in a wheat field and measured 102 feet in diameter. The second, near Cove, Utah, consisted of an outer circle, connecting rings and pathways.
  • In 1998, the “West Approach” crop circle appeared, named because it lay close to the west approach of the Cache County Airport. Its satellite design consisted of a three-foot-thick ring around a 20- to 25-foot center circle.
You can find more information about Utah crop circles at Utah UFO Hunters.

UFOs

Utah has a long history of UFO sightings, many of which have been cataloged by About.com’s Guide to UFOs/Aliens, Loy Lawhon:

  • In 1961, a lens-shaped UFO was sighted at noon above Salt Lake City by the pilot of a small aircraft as well as people on the ground. When the pilot began to close in on it, the object rose vertically very quickly, then zoomed away at great speed. Military jets were called, but the object had gone before they arrived.
  • In 1967, a hospital employee, driving to Salt Lake City from Saint George, heard a noise similar to that of a truck, then saw a yellow light that stopped 30 meters away at 30 meters altitude. It was shaped like an inverted bowl with a dome on top and looked metallic. The witness became afraid and emptied his .25 Berretta pistol in the direction of the craft. He heard the bullets hit metal and the object took off at great speed.
  • In 1996, A “long rectangular pie plate” UFO was seen near Duchesne, Utah. This object had “eight big circles” or protuberances on the belly, stretching 30 feet from the craft’s center to its stern.
  • In February, 1998, two postal workers observed a UFO over Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. As they drove nearer to the lake to get a closer look, they noticed many dead seagulls on the side of the road. Then the lights on their truck began to flicker. They described the UFO as metallic, spherical, and 100 to 200 yards in diameter with rotating lights.
  • In December, 1998, several witnesses watched three UFOs fly over the Wasatch mountain range in Park City. One of the witnesses said they saw “three bright white lights in a triangular formation silently streak across the sky at a tremendous speed, at first in a straight line and then make a left turn and recede until they disappeared, over the space of about five seconds.”

Many more sightings can be found at the Utah UFO Hunters sightings page, and the site also profiles several of the state’s UFO hotspots, some of which include photographs.

Utah is also home to the infamous Bigelow Ranch, otherwise known as “Utah’s UFO Ranch.” According to an article in The Deseret News, the owners claimed that the 480-acre ranch was “rife with UFO activity and other bizarre occurrences,” including football field-size UFOs, cattle mutilations, anomalous balls of light (one of which reportedly incinerated a dog), and a doorway or portal – possibly to another dimension – that appeared in mid-air. Millionaire Robert T. Bigelow bought the ranch and brought in a team of researchers and surveillance equipment in hopes of finding out what was going on. Much of the activity has continued.

Utah might also be the site of the “new Area 51,” according to an article in Popular Mechanics. The Green River Complex, Area 6413, at White Sands, Utah, could be the U.S. government’s newest facility for testing top-secret “black projects,” a few of which, some say, could be reverse engineered from crashed alien spacecraft. The base might at least account for some UFO sightings in and around the state.

Stalin, Mengele, join cast as Roswell plot thickens

Real alien body or a clever fake?

DEVOTEES of science fiction have been convinced for decades that an alien spacecraft crashed in the desert of New Mexico – and that the American government covered up the recovery of extraterrestrial bodies.

The so-called Roswell Incident of 1947 spawned conspiracy theories by the score.

But now, sadly for UFO spotters, a new book offers an entirely man-made and even more bizarre explanation, featuring two of the greatest villains of 20th century history: the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin and the infamous Nazi ”Angel of Death” Dr Josef Mengele.

During a powerful storm in July 1947, an object crashed near a rancher’s home in Roswell, New Mexico.

Roswell army airbase initially said that a ”flying disc” had come down but, hours later, as government scientists arrived, it was stated that a weather balloon had crashed. The incident went largely unreported until books and documentaries in the 1970s made allegations of alien life forms.

Area 51, the new book by Annie Jacobsen, is based on interviews with scientists and engineers who worked in the top-secret test base in the Nevada Desert.

It dismisses the alien story and puts forward the theory that Stalin was inspired by Orson Welles’s famous radio adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds, which provoked hysteria across America when broadcast in 1938.

According to the book, the plot started after the Soviet Union seized from Germany at the end of the war the jet-propelled, single wing Horten Ho 229 – a fighter said to be the forerunner of the modern B-2 stealth bomber.

This is where Mengele enters the story. The Nazi doctor, who experimented on prisoners in Auschwitz and fled to South America after the war, was supposedly enlisted to create a crew of ”grotesque, child-size aviators” in return for a eugenics laboratory.

The book says that the plane was filled with ”alien-like” children, aged 12 or 13, who Stalin wanted to land in America and cause hysteria similar to the 1938 broadcast. But the remotely piloted plane crashed and the Americans hushed up the incident. Jacobsen’s source, a retired engineer from the former defence company EG&G, said he was put on to the Roswell project in Area 51 in 1978.

Jacobsen, a journalist with The Los Angeles Times, writes: ”They found bodies alongside the crashed craft. These were not aliens. Nor were they consenting airmen. They were human guinea pigs. Unusually petite for pilots, they appeared to be children.

”Each was under five feet tall. They were grotesquely deformed, but each in the same manner as the others. They had unusually large heads and abnormally shaped oversized eyes.”

Two were supposedly found ”comatose but still alive”.

A spokesman for the US Air Force said: ”We have not yet read this book so we are not able to make a comment on it.”

Real Aliens, Space Beings, and Creatures from Other Worlds

The breadth and depth as well as the downright far-out strangeness of the information in Brad and Sherry Steiger’s book Real Aliens, Space Beings, and Creatures from Other Worlds brings the subject solidly into the realm of the paranormal.

Weird and Weirder Still

For those who think the UFO phenomenon consists only of flying saucers, little gray beings, Roswell, and the occasional abduction, you have no idea how utterly strange and far-reaching it really is. And the Steigers’ book will educate you in short order with case after case of bizarre encounters and high strangeness.

Yes, there are the traditional flying saucer reports and “the grays,” to be sure, but the cases that intrigue me the most are the ones that don’t come out of the conventional mold:

  • In 1979 in Huntsville, Alabama, a woman with car trouble stops on the side of the road where she encounters a four-foot-tall being that seems more robot than flesh and blood. She later finds that her car’s engine has practically been melted.
  • March, 1967 near Butler, Pennsylvania, a father and daughter witness globes of light descend from the sky and transform right before their eyes into blond-haired expressionless humanoids.
  • March, 2010 in Santiago, Chile, a bus-load of passengers see a glowing UFO emerge from the sea, and then a luminous being of some kind surrounded by flashes of light walks toward the highway.
  • October, 1973 on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi, two fishermen see a fish-shaped UFO and then are abducted by three aliens with wrinkled skin, crab-like claws and pointed ears.

This is only a small sampling of the dozens upon dozens of encounters the Steigers have assembled. Then there are UFO cases that have a Bigfoot connection, the claims of human-alien hybrids, the strange alien messages and warnings, alien sex, and the mystical experiences claimed by contactees.

What’s Going On?

I don’t think anyone can come away from reading this book with the simple idea that aliens from another planet are visiting Earth. There is something deeper and more mysterious going on.

The people who have these encounters, are they all crazy? Hallucinating?

To account for the sheer number and variety of aliens and craft reported over the decades, the Earth would have to be visited by dozens of races from dozens of planets outside our solar system. Is this likely? What are these creatures and where do they really come from? Other dimensions? Our own imaginations and subconscious?

How can we possibly account for all of this impossible strangeness?

Real Aliens, Space Beings, and Creatures from Other Worlds forces you to consider all of these questions for which there are no cut-and-dried, easy answers.

I suspect that the answers and explanations are, for the present, beyond our understanding. In addition to all of these queer aliens and craft, this planet is also beset with the ghost phenomenon, poltergeist activity, astonishing psychic connections and synchronicities — all of which take place every day! We have no choice but to conclude that the universe truly is stranger than we can imagine and that science has so far brought us knowledge of only the thinnest surface of our true reality.

We don’t really have a clue, I’m afraid, of the true nature of life, reality and our existence. We’re not smart enough, nor do we yet have the tools to perceive what lies beneath the veneer of our daily lives.

An Important Book

For anyone who has even the slightest interest in UFOs, the paranormal, or the unexplained, Real Aliens, Space Beings, and Creatures from Other Worlds should be a welcome addition to their bookshelves. Yes, it’s a fun and exciting read, but it’s also important.

To my mind, books like this (and others such as The Mothman Prophecies, The Holographic Universe, Hanz Holzer’s ghost books, and other Steiger books) should be read right along side of the latest science books on astronomy, psychology and quantum physics. The science books, as important as they are, only give you half of the story. Books on the paranormal provide a view of the other side of the human experience that cannot necessarily be brought into the lab for analysis — but are just as “real.” They happen. All the time.

And whether they are physical, psychological, interdimensional, or something else in nature, they cannot and should not be ignored. Instead, as the Steigers do in this book, they should be reported, explored, and examined — objectively — to the fullest extent possible. How else are we going to get to the bottom of it all?

‘Car sized’ UFO’s seen in Ohio

A Cheviot, OH, witness reports a silent, slow-moving, football-shaped UFO the “size of a car” passed overhead “about 150 feet above the house” just as it was getting dark on May 9, 2011, while a second, similar-shaped UFO appeared nearby, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness first noticed “piercing white and red lights shining brightly through the small windows at the top” of the front door. Looking out the door window, the witness “saw white and red lights all in a row and on a slant passing above the house.” She then ran through the home and looked out a back window.

“It looked like it was moving really slowly, but it probably looked slower than it really was, from its altitude I might guess it was moving 40 mph, but I really can’t say for sure,” the witness stated. “I do know I had time to run from the front to the back of a small house (2 rooms) and had to wait about 30 seconds for it to appear above the house in the back. I called my cousin downstairs and she saw it too.”

The witness described the object.

“It was a football-like shaped UFO about the size of a car with a very thin lip around the edge that had the lights on it. There were one or two bright, white lights on each end and a bright red light in the middle. The white lights on the ends were thinner but longer, which is why I think there may have been two together on the ends. The red light in the middle was much larger, shorter but fatter, like doubled up. I couldn’t tell what color the object was, but I didn’t see any kind of shiny surface reflecting light.”

As the object moved silently and low over the witnesses’ home, a second object appeared.

“I would say it was about 150 feet above the house. It was far too close to be a plane or helicopter and there was absolutely no sound and no wind from it. It paused for about 30 to 60 seconds in the sky in a clearing between some trees over the street behind mine (which is lower, I can see over those rooftops), then it moved eastward behind the trees. Then a second UFO just like it suddenly appeared in the clearing where the first was seconds before, and it moved off to the south in a very similar fashion to the first one.”

Cheviot is a city in west-central Hamilton County, OH, population 9,015. No object images or videos were included with the report, but the witness did provide two reference images – Image # 1, and Image # 2.

Numerous reports continue to come into the MUFON witness database of very low-flying UFOs this year.

Also on May 9, 2011, an Indiana witness reports a “black sphere” flying over at 500 to 800 feet in MUFON Case # 29043.

“I was out doing some yard work in the back last night. While I was walking to the front of the yard I happened to look up about what I would say is about maybe 500 to 800 feet up was a black sphere flying by in a straight line going west bound,” the witness stated. “The weather condition was windy. I thought it might be bird at first, but it was close enough that naked eye could make out its shape. No wings – then I thought it was a balloon becasue of its shape, but balloons don’t fly in a straight line. I watched it for about 20 to 45 seconds before it disappeared into the horizon. It was very quick moving about the air.”

On May 8, 2011, a Chaplin, KY, witness watched a triangle UFO move overhead “150 yards off the ground” with a “nuclear greenish, orange light” at each corner while a second triangle object followed two minutes later with a “glowing neon, blue-ish spinning orb” at its center. We reported this as: Two Kentucky triangle UFOs reported flying under 500 feet.

Also on May 8, 2011, two rural Maine witnesses report observing two “other worldly” triangle-shaped UFOs that were 20-feet across as they moved 200 feet overhead. We reported this as: ‘Other worldly’ UFO moves 200 feet over rural Maine.

OH, May 9, 2011 – Football shaped UFO flew silently over house, joined by a 2nd one. MUFON Case # 29040.

I’m reporting this for my adult niece who is a little too freaked out. I typed her story as she told it to me:

I was sitting in the living room engrossed in an online chat with my brother. It was nearly dark outside, the front door faces north. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw piercing white and red lights shining brightly through the small windows at the top of the door. They were very bright like police lights, very piercing bright red and white lights. At first I thought it was some kind of emergency vehicle. I went to the door and on tip toes peeked out the little windows at the top of the door. I saw white and red lights all in a row and on a slant passing above the house.

I ran into the kitchen window (faces south) and that’s when I got a really good look. It looked like it was moving really slowly, but it probably looked slower than it really was, from it’s altitude I might guess it was moving 40mph, but I really can’t say for sure. I do know I had time to run from the front to the back of a small house (2 rooms) and had to wait about 30 second for it to appear above the house in the back. I called my cousin downstairs and she saw it too.

It was a football-like shaped UFO about the size of a car with a very thin lip around the edge that had the lights on it. There were one or two bright white lights on each end and a bright red light in the middle. The white lights on the ends were thinner but longer, which is why I think there may have been two together on the ends. The red light in the middle was much larger, shorter but fatter, like doubled up. I couldn’t tell what color the object was, but I didn’t see any kind of shiny surface reflecting light.

I would say it was about 150 feet above the house, it was far too close to be a plane or helicopter and there was absolutely no sound and no wind from it. It paused for about 30 to 60 seconds in the sky in a clearing between some trees over the street behind mine (which is lower, I can see over those rooftops), then it moved eastward behind the trees. Then a second UFO just like it suddenly appeared in the clearing where the first was seconds before, and it moved off to the south in a very similar fashion to the first one.

My blood pressure started to rise and I started to sweat and feel really hot, even though I wasn’t afraid of it, per se. My heart was racing, I guess from adrenaline. I called my aunt and mom who live less than 2 miles from here. They couldn’t see it from their house, so they raced over within 5 minutes, talking to me on the phone the whole way, but the objects had disappeared behind trees by the time they got there and they didn’t see them.

End of my niece’s story. I’m the aunt she called and I will tell you that she was extremely tense when she called us, so we kept her on the phone while we raced over as fast as we could. She was describing in very anxious tones exactly what she was seeing while it was happening begging us to please hurry! Unfortunately, it was gone by the time we got there not 5 minutes later, but I believe my niece. She doesn’t know ANYTHING about UFOs, stuff like this never even crosses her mind. She was afraid we would think she was making it up, but I could tell by the anxiety in her voice this was all very real, plus she had a second witness in her cousin who also lives in the house.

This sighting occurred over Cheviot, Ohio which borders the west side of the city of Cincinnati proper and is a very populated area with lots of houses and street lights.

I had her sketch a picture of what she saw immediately after she told us about it. Unfortunately I’m unable to scan it tonight, but I’ll keep it and hopefully can add it to this report later.

In the meantime, she went online to look for things that were similar. She said the lights looked a lot like this UFO Oregon shot, only without the one light on the top.

And she said it was similar in shape to the Trinidad shot, only the lip that circumvents it was much less pronounced, and held the lights.

Ground level UFO startles witnesses along rural Maryland road

Two Maryland witnesses driving along rural Dairy Road near the small town of Rising Sun stopped their vehicle as a slow-moving UFO – 50 feet across and 20 feet high – moved silently just three feet above the ground, according to May 4, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The UFO emerged from a valley area to the left of the roadway across a field.

“I turned my head to the left and seen the front of the UFO moving about three feet off the ground and going about 1 mph (just moving really slow),” the reporting witness stated.

The witness stopped the vehicle as the UFO completely emerged in front of them.

“As we were setting there watching it move, all of a sudden it stopped and was about three feet off the ground. I guess the size of it about 50 feet across and about 20 feet high. It was really big. It made no sound and the color was a dirty silver.”

As the object stopped, the witness reports getting a feeling that the object did not want to be seen.

“When it stopped, it set there about three seconds, and then moved straight up about 20 feet, and stopped again. That’s when I thought we may be in big trouble, but at that moment when it stopped, it was like a rocked blasting off – fire came from beneath it about 5-foot circle and still made no sound.”

The object moved up, and then was gone.

“After it took off we only seen it for about 300 feet and it disappeared and was gone. The distance from us was within 200 yards so we got a really good view of it. There were no windows that I could see or any markings. I would say the whole thing from start to finish took about 90 seconds.”

No images or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on May 4, 2011. Rising Sun is in Cecil County, Maryland, population 1,702. The incident took place on July 15, 1969. Both witnesses told no one at the time about the sighting.

Maryland is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating,
with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. Maryland had 4 UFO reports in April 2011 – while California had 46 sightings, the highest reporting state in the nation.

The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON.

MD, July 15, 1969 – I seen a UFO up close. MUFON Case # 28939

I used to live in Maryland from 1964 to 1977. I guess it was about 1969 to maybe 1972–I don’t remember the exact year when we seen a UFO. It was in the summer, I had been fishing with my brother-in-law “Bo” (who is now deceased) It was in the evening as we were on our way home on Dairy Road near the town of Rising Sun. I lived on Dairy Road and was only a couple of minutes from home when I spotted the UFO.

As we were going down the road there was a field on my left and across the field there were two hills seperated by a valley, as we were moving something caught my eye coming from the vally between the hills. I turned my head to the left and seen the front of the UFO moving about 3 feet of the ground and going about 1 mile per hour (just moving really slow)

I told Bo ‘LOOK AT THAT”. I stopped in the road and we watched it move real slow compelety out into full view.

As we were setting there watching it move, all of a sudden it stopped and was about 3 feet off the ground. I guess the size of it about 50 feet across and about 20 ft. high. It was really big. It made NO sound and the color was a dirty silver.

When it stopped I got the feeling that it didn’t want to be seen. When it stopped it set there about 3 seconds and than moved straight up about 20 feet and stopped again. Thats when I thought we may be in big trouble but at that moment when it stopped it was like a rocked blasting off, fire came from beneath it about 5 foot circle and still made NO sound.

After it took off we only seen it for about 300 feet and it disappeared and was gone. The distance from us was within 200 yards so we got a really good view of it. There were no windows that I could see or any markings. I would say the whole thing from start to finish took about 90 seconds. The thing that we were not able to figure out was it was evening when we seen the UFO and only lived a couple of minutes down the road but didn’t get home till after dark. Plus we never thought to tell anyone about it. We just forgot about it.

It was a strange experience. I Have seen many other UFO’s but that one was up close.

The Ely UFO Crash

Roswell wasn’t the only crash site! ELY, NV – Visit Roswell, New Mexico, even Rachel, Nevada, a stop on Nevada’s Extraterrestrial Highway, and you’ll find both proudly claim a spot in UFO history. You won’t find that in Ely, Nevada, but maybe you should.

If you google Ely and UFO you’ll immediately find a link to flying saucer legend and lore. It appears in every listing of a supposed crash of an unidentified flying object.
Nearly six decades ago, it is claimed a UFO crashed near Ely. That’s nearly the whole story. You’ll find a date: August 14, 1952 and 16 bodies recovered.

That’s the highest body count claimed for any UFO crash anywhere by the way. Both claims consistent on all listings, but no other details.

We first heard this story in November when we journeyed to Ely chasing the claims of fresh sightings in eastern Nevada. Out of curiousity we started looking for more.

We weren’t the first. A few years ago Kent Harper of the Ely Times came across the same reference and asked his readers if any could shed any light on the account. He didn’t get a lot of feedback. Years later, he says, he hasn’t learned much more.

“I even went down to Rachel and talked with some folks down there,” he says, “but it just seems to have been on the internet forever and no one adds to it, no one deletes from it.”

Harper wouldn’t have found any clues in the files of his own paper.

We checked the microfilm on the Ely Times from August of 1952 in three different libraries with the same result. The issue from August 15th, when any such event would have been reported, is missing.

That’s enough to jump start the musings of any conspiracy theorist worth the title, but finally in the White Pine County Library we found perhaps the only remaining copy of the August 15th issue.

On the front page: a baseball tournament, an approaching festival, news from the Korean War, even a planned flyover by Air Force bombers. Nothing that could give rise to a rumor of a UFO crash.

Mention any of this nearly six decades later to anyone on the street here and you’ll likely get a puzzled stare and a shrug.

So this incident whatever it was, if it was, does not play a prominent role in local memory, but if you start asking questions stories do emerge.

The stories from the ’50’s are now third hand, but the most intriguing links the crash story to a spot just west of Ely along Highway 50 called Copper Flat.

Mary Sorenson is a lifelong resident and local historian of White Pine County. Growing up here she heard no stories of UFO crashes, but a few years ago, looking for material for a collection of local ghost stories, she came across the same information we did and mentioned it to a longtime resident, who said he had heard it first hand from a close friend, a respected security guard working for the nearby copper mine.

“He told my friend he witnessed a UFO crash and the government swore him to secrecy, that he was not to divulge to anyone.”

A UFO crash, not a plane crash?

“A UFO crash is what he said.”

The man, by all accounts, a responsible, respected member of the community took whatever else he might have known including the exact location to the grave.

Ironically years after the reported crash, this location would have a unrelated connection to aerospace. In 1959, NASA located a tracking station on Kimberly Mountain overlooking Copper Flat, part of Project High Range, to track the flights of the X-15 rocket plane. The empty building still stands amidst a collection of communication sites.

As a 12 year old staying with his grandparents in East Ely that same summer of 1952, Claude House says he and others in the neighborhood had their own close encounter. At 4 in the morning, a bright object lit up the sky above the house, letting out a low hum.

Neighbors gathered and watched, joined by a deputy and the sheriff himself.

“I seen what I seen and I know I’m not crazy,”:insists House. Over a number of minuites maybe a dozen people witnessed the object, he says.. “And they agreed. It was a UFO.”

A few days later he recalls a dinner table conversation, the adults talking about a crash.
“They said a few of their friends from Kennecott went hp there to see what the could, see if any stuff that might be lying around and it was blocked off and it was a light plane crash.”

We’ve been unable to verify any incident involving an aircraft of any type near Ely or anything else that would morph into a reported crash of a UFO.

So, inevitably we are left with a mystery. Where did this story come from? It’s a question without an answer and likely to remain that way. The coldest of cold cases in the UFO file.

Rectangle UFO appeared in a ‘liquid state’ over Texas

The UFO’s appear to be taking on more and more unique configurations. This is the most unique one to date! A more advanced “scout” type of ship, or is this one another representation of another race that has taken interest in our planet?

A Texas couple report watching a 200-foot-long, rectangle-shaped UFO that appeared to be in a “liquid state” as it moved across the sky at about 1,500 feet, according to April 27, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The couple noticed the object in the distance as it “soared silently from southeast to northwest.”

They agree that estimating its size and distance is tough.

“It is difficult to estimate the size or how high it was,” the reporting witness stated. “The view was unobstructed. The object could be seen clearly and it was not rotating, making noise or illuminated. My wife believes it was roughly 200 feet by 200 feet and was flying at roughly 1500 feet. I believe it was much larger and was flying closer to one mile.”

But they noticed something else that was rather odd about the object.

“The object appeared to be in a liquid state, such as the chemical mercury, but it retained its parallelogram shape throughout the sighting. It appeared to only be reflecting the lights from the ground, and had no lights on the craft itself. The object had a ‘digital’ camouflage appearance of a circuit board or other layered pattern.”

No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the report. The event occurred on April 25, 2011, at 9:52 p.m. No images or video were released with the report, which was filed on April 27, 2011.

Texas is a current UFO ALERT 3 rating, with a high number of UFO sightings nationally. Texas had 39 UFO reports in March 2011 – while California had 45 sightings, the highest reporting state in the nation.

TX, April 25, 2011 – parallelogram shaped object with no lights but reflective qualities soared silently overhead. MUFON Case # 28839.

My wife and I were sitting outside on our patio on 4/25/11 at 9:52pm when we saw a rectangular shaped object that caught our attention as it appeared in the distance and soar silently from southeast to northwest.

It is difficult to estimate the size or how high it was. The view was unobstructed. The object could be seen clearly and it was not rotating, making noise or illuminated.

My wife believes it was roughly 200’ x 200’ and was flying at roughly 1500’. I believe it was much larger and was flying closer to 1 mile.

The object appeared to be in a liquid state, such as the chemical mercury, but it retained its parallelogram shape throughout the sighting. It appeared to only be reflecting the lights from the ground, and had no lights on the craft itself. The object had a “digital” camouflage appearance of a circuit board or other layered pattern.

It was dark outside with few clouds and the stars were shining brightly. The object made no noise and flew in a straight line and was faster than any aircraft I have ever personally seen.

We live in an area with little surrounding lights from our community. Neither my wife nor myself have ever seen anything like this and have never witnessed any unidentified object.
