  • This stunning suggestion at least quadruples the antiquity of human art, and removes that laurel from "Homo sapiens." That's at least the contention of a group of scholars publishing their findings in Science Direct. Ashley Cowie has the story about two unnamed Denisovan kids who may have been responsible for this groundbreaking discovery. Cowie colleague Nathan Falde reports another surprise as Giant Camel Sculptures in Saudi Desert Found to be Incredibly Ancient. New analysis shows that these reliefs, only […]

  • The strange doesn't necessarily require cryptids or the paranormal. Simply finding something well out of its usual environment can be enough to leave us scratching our heads. This first example is from 2013 and involves a couple of college kids on a long road trip late at night, and a very large stag sauntering onto a dark highway. No collision thankfully, although the incident leaves the impression of something unnatural/otherworldly in the exhausted, road weary eyes of the witnesses. […]
  • Impressed by the testimony of military, police, and Other People Of Importance, Daniel Lavelle attempts an even-handed treatment of the UFO/Alien Close Encounter scenario in particular. Lavelle of course has the Expert Opinions and makes one or two unfortunate characterizations of those who consider seriously the possibility of ET visitation. But in sum maybe some of us more common folks are having more than sleep-deprived, drug-aided hallucinatory, or mentally wrought experiences. One who works with such people is the […]
  • This first report comes from a couple of bow hunters in the US. The details of their story don't add up particularly, but that can be overlooked in light of the sheer terror they experienced in this encounter with two enormous bipeds having a pissy day. No doubt they needed some of what this next fellow was hunting: Ginseng Hunter Finds Possible Bigfoot Evidence in Southeast Kentucky. American ginseng is evidently quite soothing, and this herbalist may have needed […]
  • In the first of several UFO media presentations, David Halperin notes some odd things in the new Jacques Vallee/Paola Harris collaborative book Trinity: The Best-Kept Secret about a 1945 UFO crash story. David suggests a kind of folie a trois among the witnesses, which absolves them of intentional hoaxing in the shadow of a truly horrific mundane event. He promises more on this later. Nigel Watson has mixed feelings about Beyond Pascagoula. That's Irena McCammon Scott's new volume Beyond […]
  • Representative Mike Garcia was in the air when the now-iconic 2004 "Tic Tac" incident occurred. In a Roll Call interview Garcia makes the now-standard Congressional remarks on the UFO/UAP subject, reinforcing the threat aspect, but accepting the notion that life exists elsewhere in the universe. And maybe this is Progress. Keith Basterfield has been looking into the matter of Luis Elizondo, ICER, and that San Marino Conference that was held on September 11th and 12th. The "triple symposium" was […]
  • We have the perfect prescription for anyone (all of us) needing respite from the endless disaster movie that is 2020-2021. Distraction! And by distraction we mean researcher and filmmaker Karac St. Laurent has released a new documentary–about a hairy, manlike creature in this New Hampshire town–as an homage to the cryptid documentaries of the the 1970s (think The Legend of Boggy Creek). You can see it at the Crash-Course Cryptozoology YouTube channel. And when you're done with that, pop […]
  • Rich Reynolds offers opinions for consideration on several UFO matters. Here Rich fears that the 1973 Pascagoula case will degenerate into the rather complicated, confused, and controversy-wrought mess that Roswell and Rendlesham have all too much become. In Hallucinogenics and UFO Events Rich presents a possible cause for some UFO events like Pascagoula and requests comment from Nick Redfern, who obliges. And Rich says Fame is Fleeting, but in Ufology it Just Doesn't Exist. Maybe a general emphasis on […]
  • At first blush, this article is remarkably silly. Reading and analyzing further illustrates the depth of Dave Clements's sarcasm with such a declaration. Also saying phosphine being a major component of the Venusian atmosphere, at 5 parts per billion, demonstrates how Harsh Vardhan may be oblivious or merely playing along with the ruse. This Norwegian Island Claims to be the Fabled Land of Thule Smithsonian MagazineF. Salazar’s article takes us on a journey of historical discovery and controversy with modern economic implications. The sometimes-lyrical piece chronicles the claims for Pytheas’ farthest northern spot where “the earth and sea and all things together are suspended,” and how the inhabitants of the island of Smola are themselves suspended between their rather insulated present status and the possibilities of ramped-up tourism. Among former visitors to Smola are a group about whom comes the astonishing news that the World’s Largest DNA Sequencing of Viking Skeletons Reveals They Weren’t All Scandinavian. “The history books will need to be updated,” concludes one contributor to a huge six-year international study of Viking remains. The freedom, the simplicity, the run-ins with 7-foot-tall man-beasts…This British  encounter from about 20 years ago ended harmlessly enough but we have to wonder how many Bigfoot were actually involved given the wood knocks described. It might have concluded differently if the witness’s ride had arrived a quarter hour later.  Yet even as we add this to an enormous anecdotal collection of Sasquatch encounters, we still can’t prove the Hairy Guy is real. Nick Redfern explores this issue more in  Bigfoot: Why Can’t We Get the Proof? He reaches a conclusion that is both incredible and yet entirely believable: We can’t find evidence of an enormous flesh and blood creature because Bigfoot is something else. He is Other, and until we adjust our expectations and methods to this possibility, we will never uncover usable proof. (CM)

Resurrection time for mere mortals

Death and  life are intertwined. Like Lazarus, people have been documented to arise from being clinically dead. I am very interested to know…what have these people experienced on the other side? This an interesting story found at mysteriousuniverse.org.

In a Rare Case of the Lazarus Syndrome, a Woman is Declared Dead Twice

That biblical passage comes from the story of Lazarus, who was brought back to life after being declared dead and buried four days before. Lazarus thus lent his name to any circumstance involving a person being brought back to life after being declared dead by a doctor or another person who knows the signs of death. While it’s popular in movie plots and novels, the so-called Lazarus Syndrome is extremely rare – only 37 cases have been verified worldwide since 1982.

Make that 38.

The Raising of Lazarus

“The patient was certified dead at 10.30pm in GMSH.”

Dr. Dasari Harish, head of the forensic medicine department at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)-32, told the Times of India that the case was discussed at a recent conference. Doctors at the Government Multispecialty Hospital (GMSH)-16 in Chandigarh (a city and a union territory in northern India) declared a 45-year-old female patient dead due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – an inflammatory lung condition that obstructs breathing. Dr. Harish says the doctors followed proper protocols when determining the time of death at 10.30 pm and placed what they thought was a corpse in an ambulance three hours later to be transported to the home of her relatives for the funeral. However, “signs of vitality were noticed by the relatives while transporting her body,” said Harish.

Uh-oh.

“They immediately unpacked her and brought to our hospital at 5:58 am. We were not even informed that she had already been declared dead by the previous hospital. After resuscitation and treatment, she was declared dead at 7:30 am in GMCH.”

As Dr. Harish pointed out, the woman had been declared officially dead by other doctors following proper protocols. Yes, doctors have been known to close ranks when controversy occurs, but the Lazarus Syndrome muddies the saline solution here. According to a US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health report, the Lazarus syndrome or Lazarus heart or ‘autoresuscitation after failed cardiopulmonary resuscitation’, is the “the unassisted return of spontaneous circulation after cardiac arrest.” There is some thought that the heart could be stopped by pressure built up during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the heart may start beating again after the pressure is relieved. According to the Emergency Medicine Journal, it may also occur due to high doses or adrenaline (epinephrine) or the recreational ingestion of high doses of heroin and ecstasy. It doesn’t appear that any of these were the case with the poor woman in India. So, what caused this 38th case of the Lazarus Syndrome?

“We found it evidently as the first case of Lazarus phenomena from India. There are no certain reasons, but it is believed that some lifesaving drugs giving for resuscitation have a prolonged effect and perhaps rarely some patients can again come back to life and die again within 2-3 hours.”

Needless to say, that ambulance will have plenty of lawyers chasing it from now on.

When a red flag pops up even in the paranormal world

Any of us in the paranormal world of be it study, active study out in the field etc., that encounter person(s) that “throw of a bad vibe”, we need to listen to our inner voice of reason. In my encounters, I had the time to interview an individual on spiritual encounters both good and bad, that this person had repeatedly experienced. The interview then lead into very dark paths of conversation about those experiences.

The path had strewn into the demonic and satanic realms. I had become aware that I may have been being targeted for an attack by an entity that was very dark and hungry. How did I become aware? It was my inner voice of reason that went from a whisper to an outright shout that I needed to step back and away very quickly!

I had been given information about contacting that individual for more information. That right away had told me a physical point was trying to be established to allow this attack to start to take place. The information was discarded, I then felt a pressure being lifted off and away from me. The moral to this story is please be very aware of your environment around you, take the precautions to protect yourself and people in your group if you’re out in the field for research and fact finding outings etc.

Have you had experiences like this with other people? I would like to know. I will NOT publish your real name. But please do use the Report an experience form to share your experience(s) about this.

The Lost Meaning of Halloween

As ubiquitous as Halloween celebrations are throughout the world, few of us know that the true origin of Halloween is a ceremony of honoring our ancestors and the day of the dead. A time when the veils between the worlds were thinner, and so many could “see” the other side of life. A time in the year when the spiritual and material worlds touched for a moment, and a greater potential exists for magical creation.

ANCIENT RITES

In ancient times, this day was a special and honored day of the year.

In the Celtic calendar, it was one of the most important days of the year, representing a mid point in the year, Samhain, or “summer’s end”. Occuring opposite the great Spring Festival of May Day, or Beltain, this day represented the turning point of the year, the eve of the new year which begins with the onset of the dark phase of the year.

And while celebrated by the Celts, the origin of this day has connections to other cultures as well, such as Egypt, and in Mexico as Dia de la Muerta, or the day of the dead.

The Celts believed that the normal laws of space and time were held in abeyance during this time, allowing a special window where the spirit world could intermingle with the living. It was a night when the dead could cross the veils and return to the land of the living to celebrate with their family, or clan. As such, the great burial mounds of Ireland were lit up with torches lining the walls, so the spirits of the dead could find their way.

JACK-O-LANTERNS

Out of this ancient tradition comes one of our most famous icons of the holiday: the Jack-o-lantern. Originating from Irish folkfore, the Jack-o-lantern was used as a light for the lost soul of Jack, a notorious trickster, stuck between worlds. Jack is said to have tricked the devil into a truck of a tree and by carving an image of a cross in the tree’s trunk, he trapped the devil there. His pranks denied him access to Heaven, and having angered the devil also to Hell, so Jack was a lost soul, trapped between worlds. As a consolation, the devil gave him a sole ember to light his way through the darkness between worlds.

Originally in Ireland turnips were carved out and candles placed inside as lanterns lit to help guide Jack’s lost spirit back home. Hence the term: Jack-o-lanterns. Later, when immigrants came to the new world, pumpkins were more readily available, and so the carved pumpkins carrying a lit candle served the same function.

FESTIVAL FOR THE DEAD

As the Church began to take hold in Europe the ancient Pagan rituals were co-opted into festivals of the Church. While the Church could not support a general feast for all the dead, it created a festival for the blessed dead, all those hallowed so, All Hallow’s, was transformed into All Saints and All Souls day.

Today, we have lost the significance of this most significant time of year which in modern times has turned into a candy fest with kids dressing up as action heroes.

Many cultures have ceremonies to honor their dead. In so doing, they complete a cycle of birth and death, and keep in line with a harmony and order of the universe, at time when we enter into the cycle of darkness for the upcoming year.

Humanoid Creature Captured on Video in Australia

DOUGLAS SHIRE– An explorer in Australia captured the images of what he calls a “Nephilim” creature attached to the roof of an undisclosed cave in Douglas Shire earlier this week.
Nick Malicki, who calls himself the Nephilim Hunter, claims he and his team didn’t spot the oddity until hours later when reviewing the footage at home.

“Normally I know the smell of these things but one of the guys had a flaming torch so I couldn’t catch his scent over the kerosene,” Malicki said.
The 20-second-long video was taken by a pole-mounted camera and shows a humanoid-like grey figure hiding in an alcove inside a cave at a classified location the researcher dubs “The Eye of Ra”. When Malicki points a flashlight in that direction, the purported creature appears to move its head in what looks like an attempt to shield its eyes from the bright beam. A closer look suggests that there could also be a second, smaller individual being carried by the bigger one in a primate-like fashion…

Weird Skeletons

In 2004, scientists were stunned by the discovery of skeletons of what are thought to be an ancient race of people that stood about 3½ feet tall – about the height of a modern three-year-old. Found on the remote island of Indonesia, these pygmies were named Homo floresiensis and nicknamed “hobbits” because of their small size (their heads were no bigger than a grapefruit). The scientists believe this diminutive race died out about 13,000 years ago, although modern natives reported knowledge of a tiny race of people currently or recently living in isolated areas of the jungle.

These are not the first or only strange skeletons unearthed around the world – including the U.S. Whether you believe humans are the descendents of Adam and Eve, the result of millions of years of evolution or the genetic creations of the Annunaki, there are many puzzling specimens of skeletons, skulls and other human (or human-like) remains that can truly make one wonder about mankind’s past.

Here’s a bare-bones look at some of the more intriguing cases:

Horny Devils
Within an ancient burial mound near the town of Sayre in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, skeletons measuring approximately 7 feet in length were discovered in the 1800s. But the most remarkable feature of these tall skeletons was not their height, but the strange horn-like protrusions above the brow region on their skulls. It was estimated that they were buried around 1200 AD. According to some sources, the skeletons were sent to the American Investigating Museum in Philadelphia, and vanished.

All the Better to Eat You With, My Dear
In 1888, seven skeletons, which had been placed in a sitting position, were uncovered from a burial mound near Clearwater, Minnesota. The highly unusual skulls of these beings had double rows of teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. It was also noted that the foreheads were low and sloping, compared to “normal” human skulls, and had distinctly prominent brows.

Copper Man
The December 17, 1891 issue of the respected journal Nature reported the discovery of a giant man buried 14 feet within the center of one of Ohio’s mysterious burial mounds. The enormous man’s arms, jaw, arms, chest and stomach were all clad in copper. Wooden antlers, also covered with copper, rested on either side of his head. His mouth was filled with large pearls, and a pearl-studded necklace of bear teeth hung around his neck. Who this man was, or to which race of people he belonged, is unknown.

The Mica Giant
In 1879, a burial mound in Brewersville, Indiana yielded another giant skeleton, according to the November, 1975 edition of The Indianapolis News. This one reached 9 feet 8 inches tall! It wore a necklace of mica stone, and a crude human effigy of clay was found standing at his feet. The giant skeleton was examined by scientists from Indiana and New York, and it remained in the possession of Mr. Robinson, who owned the land on which the mound stood. Unfortunately, the curious bones were washed away in a flood in 1937.

Coneheads
Researcher Robert Connolly photographed this strange elongated skull in 1995. It was found in South America and is estimated to be tens of thousands of years old. Apart from its obvious abnormalities, it also exhibits characteristics of both Neanderthal and human skulls – impossible in itself, according to anthropology texts, since Neanderthals did not exist in South America. Some believe that the unusual shape of the skulls might be the result of a primitive practice known as “skull binding” in which a person’s head is tightly bound with cloth or leather straps throughout his lifetime, causing the skull to grow in this dramatic way. The skull-binding theory is contested, however, for this and other cone-shaped skulls, and you can read about them in more detail at Anomalous Skulls.

Small Wonders
Near Coshocton, Ohio in 1837, several fully developed adult skeletons were found buried in tiny wooden coffins. Why tiny coffins? Because these adult skeletons were only 3 to 4½ feet tall. No artifacts were found with the remains that might give clues as to who these small people were, but there were so many of them that researchers believed they could have been the residents of a small city.

Pedro Mountain Mummy
“Pedro,” as he has been nicknamed, is one of the most famous enigmatic human remains ever found. He was discovered by gold prospectors in 1932 when they were dynamiting through the canyons of the Pedro Mountains, which rise about 60 miles southwest of Casper, Wyoming. There he was, sitting cross-legged on a ledge with his hands resting serenely in his lap. (See photo.) He was completely mummified. What’s astonishing, however, is that this middle-aged-looking man appeared to be only 14 inches tall! But it might not have been an adult at all. Although the mummy has been lost, X-rays survive and one modern analysis concluded that Pedro was actually an infant, or even a fetus, that might have been afflicted with the disease anencephaly.

Red Giants
In 1911, miners were digging out layers of guano from a cave located about 22 miles southwest of Lovelock, Nevada when they happened upon the mummified remains of an individual who must have stood 6½ feet tall when alive. A tall Native American, perhaps? Probably not, since the mummy was still crowned with “distinctly red” hair. Amazingly, the ancient legends of the local Paiute Indians described a race of red-haired giants – called Si-te-cahs – who were the enemies of many Indian tribes of the region.

The Starchild Skull
Lloyd Pye, author of Everything You Know Is Wrong, has taken it upon himself to discover the identity of an unusual skull he has dubbed “The Starchild Skull.” The skull, which was found in a mine shaft near Chihuahua, Mexico around 1930, is unusually wide at the back and exhibits larger than normal eye sockets. Although he says the origin of the skull is uncertain, Pye speculates on whether or not it could be of alien origin – or at least belonging to a human-alien hybrid. While some contend that the skull was merely that of a deformed human child, Pye wanted definitive proof and so, in late 1999, subjected the skull to DNA testing. The results of the test indicated that the skull was from a human being, but Pye points out that the lab could not extract sufficient strands of DNA to make a definitive conclusion, and therefore the question still remains open.

Fatheads
Robert Connolly has photographed a similar, more complete skulls. (See photos.) In most respects it appears to be that of a human, except that it has an extraordinarily large cranium and eye sockets. The eye sockets are about 15 percent larger than a modern human’s. The age and date of the skull are unknown. Similar skulls appear in photos by Karen Scheidt of remains found in a Mexican cave. Could they all be genetic mutations, some unknown species of creature or something not of this world?

5TH Dimensional Monster?

One of the most fascinating aspects in the research of paranormal phenomena is how strange things can really get. Most perplexing is when different types of phenomena overlap. This is sometimes the case with the Bigfoot phenomenon. Some researchers report that there is often something peculiar about sightings of the creature – something ghostlike or alien. Sightings have been linked to UFO phenomena. A trail of Bigfoot footprints sometimes ends abruptly, as if the creature simply vanished into thin air. Such mysteries have led some researchers to speculate that what we know as Bigfoot or Sasquatch could be an interdimensional creature – a being that can move from its dimension to ours at will. That is certainly not a theory that is widely accepted by cryptozoologists, but encounters like the one related by Bill cause one to wonder. This is Bill’s story:

My friend Mike and I swore each other to secrecy about that night in 1985. We promised we would never tell anyone whathappened, but since that night, things for both of us seemed to change somehow.

Mike and I used to do what we called “all-nighters”: we’d get in the car with some munchies and soda; Mike would bring his guitar and we would drive for at least two or three hours on the back roads of Pennsylvania, out to the middle of no-man’s land. Basically, our intent was to drive until we got lost, then switch drivers and find our way home. In our part of Pennsylvania, getting lost in the sticks isn’t too hard.

Getting Lost

That night was the last day of our sophomore year in high school, so we decided to celebrate with an all-nighter. We loaded up my car and off we went. I was driving out because it was my turn to get us lost. The early summer night was very hot and the sky was clear. Mike was playing some tunes on his guitar, and we were having a great time. I should mention at this point that we were not in the least intoxicated. Mike is diabetic, so liquor was never part of our all-nighters. After about two or two-and-a-half hours of driving, we were pretty well out in nowhere land.

And that’s when it happened.

I was at the wheel and turned down a dark road by an old broken-down farm house. Suddenly, there was a flash of light and a bang! I hit something! It was just that quick, all happening in an instant. I slammed on the brakes and Mike and I looked at each other. I uttered a few choice words and immediately opened my door to get out of the car. But Mike screamed at me, “Stay in the car! Stay in the car! Let’s get the hell outta here! What was that? Let’s go!”

Strangely, I was fairly calm, ignoring the fact that there was a bright flash (or whatever it was). I thought I hit some animal. I wanted to get out to see if there was any damage to my car. I did get out and looked around. Mike, meanwhile, was having a fit because we were not buggin’ outta there. I looked carefully. No damage to the car, nothing in the road or under the car. Yet I felt strange… like I was being watched.

And just that suddenly I was hit with an overwhelming sense of terror. I had to leave that place and leave it right away.

“Mike, we’ve got to get out of here NOW!” I said.

Mike was really starting to freak out. “What is it?” he said. “What is it?!”

“I don’t know, but we have to move – NOW!”

By this time Mike had already slid over to the driver’s side of the car and had it running. I hopped in the passenger seat. Mike turned the car around and floored it.

The White Monster

We drove for a mile or two down the road without saying one word to each another. Our eyes were focused intently out the windshield. Then we saw, crouched by the right side of the road, this “thing.” It looked like a Bigfoot… only different. It looked into our headlights, stood up and ran in front of the car, across the road and into a large grove of trees. Mike hit the brakes as we both screamed.

“What in God’s name was that?” he yelled.

“How the hell should I know,” I yelled back. “Get the hell outta here!”

Mike jammed on the accelerator and off we sped at about 80 mph. We didn’t say a word all the way home.

What Was It?

The next day we talked about the entire night before: that strange flash of light, the bump, the feeling for horror and that “thing” we saw. I can only describe it this way: When it stood, I’d say it was about 6 feet tall, ape looking but human looking at the same time. It was extremely thin and covered in scraggly white or gray hair. It had an oversized mouth with lots of teeth. And its eyes… God, its eyes looked human and frightened. I think we may have scared it as much as it scared us. I don’t know.

Mike and I didn’t talk much after that night. But he did tell me that he began to “see things” every now and then. I admitted that the same was happening to me too. We both seemed to see, for lack of better terms, “monsters”… “things” – I don’t know, just things that shouldn’t be here. I don’t know what the heck we drove through that night or what it did to us, but it definitely did something.

My friend Mike passed away last year. He died in a car accident. Another person who saw the accident said it looked like he “swerved to avoid something.”

I know this all sounds crazy, and this is the first time I’ve ever told this story. Something did happen to us that night. A vortex, a time hole, a doorway into or out of a different dimension… I don’t know. Whatever it was, both Mike and I began to see things after that night, and they’re not ghosts.

What the heck happened to us that night 18 years ago… and why has it never left us?
