There are creatures that lurk out there in the dark, that haunt the isolated forests of the world, that hide in the icy depths of the deepest lakes. They appear unexpectedly and inexplicably, then vanish just as mysteriously, usually leaving witnesses dumbfounded, frightened and, unfortunately in most cases, without a shred of evidence. Yet the eyewitness stories of these creatures persist, haunting the darkness as well as our imaginations. Here, for your consideration (and in no particular order) are the top 10 most mysterious, unexplained creatures of all time.
1. Bigfoot / Sasquatch / Yeti
These hairy apemen are probably the most consistently witnessed unknown creatures in the world. Whether they are called Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti, Skunk Ape or Yowie, they have been seen in isolated woodlands and mountain areas in virtually every corner of the globe. And the descriptions – from the North American northwest to Florida to Australia – are remarkably consistent:
The vast number of sightings, many by highly reliable witnesses, gives Bigfoot, in my estimation, the best likelihood of being a real creature as yet unknown to science. But what is it? A missing link? Some ancient relative of humans that somehow has survived in the wilderness? An unknown species of ape?
We may find out someday soon. Sightings seem to be on the increase as mankind encroaches deeper and deeper on the wilderness. And technology may aid in the search. The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization recently announced its intention to place motion-triggered digital webcams in various areas of US forest where the hairy beast has been seen. This 24-hour surveillance with potentially thousands of computer-based witnesses looking on will dramatically increase the chances of obtaining credible evidence.
For the diehard skeptic, nothing less than a captured specimen will do – or at least some other tangible evidence. And one that could qualify has recently emerged: an impression of Bigfoot’s butt. No kidding. Researchers in the American northwest have found what appears to be the impression in the ground of where a large hairy primate has sat. Hey, he’s got to rest those big feet sometime.
2. Loch Ness Monster (and other Lake monsters)
Despite excellent expeditions with sophisticated electronic equipment, the lake monsters of the world continue to elude scientists. Yet spontaneous sightings by good witnesses, although rare, persist.
The Loch Ness monster, or Nessie, is undoubtedly the most well-known of these aquatic mysteries. But other deep, cold lakes around the world have their own legendary beasts: Chessie in Chesapeake Bay, Storsie in Sweden’s Lake Storsjön, Selma in Norway’s Lake Seljordsvatnet and “Champ” in New York’s Lake Champlain among others.
Descriptions of this creature, too, are amazingly similar:
Most sightings report the humps protruding from the surface of the water (which skeptics dismiss as being almost anything, from schools of fish to floating logs), but occasionally a lucky witness will see the creature stretch its neck high above the water and look around a bit before submerging.
Photo and video evidence is rare. And although some of the photos are tantalizing (most notably the famous “flipper” photo taken by the Rines expedition in 1975), most such “proof” is fuzzy or inconclusive at best.
If the creature does exist, many researchers suspect that it could be a kind of plesiosaur – an animal from the age of the dinosaurs that is thought to have become extinct more than 66 million years ago. Could a lineage of these incredible creatures possibly have survived?
Even though some sightings date back to the 1970s, El Chupacabra – “the goat sucker” – is primarily a phenomenon of the 1990s, and its fame has largely been spread by the Internet. The sightings started in earnest in 1995 with reports coming out of Puerto Rico of a strange creature that was killing farmers’ livestock – chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits and, of course, goats – sometimes hundreds of animals in one evening. The farmers, who were familiar with the killing practices of wild dogs and other predators, claimed that the methods of this unknown beast were different. It didn’t try to eat the animals it killed, for example; nor did it drag them away to be devoured elsewhere. Instead, the creature killed by draining its victims of blood, usually through small incisions.
Then came the bizarre eyewitness descriptions:
Toward the end of the ’90s, the sightings of Chupacabra began to spread. The creature was blamed for animal killings in Mexico, southern Texas and several South American countries. In May and June of 2000, a rash of incidents took place in Chile, according to certain newspapers there. In fact, some of the most incredible claims yet came out of those sightings: that at least one of the creatures was caught alive by local authorities, then handed over to official agencies of the US government.
What is it? Theories abound, including: an unknown but natural species of predator; misidentified known predators; the result of genetic experimentation; an alien. Most serious researchers consider Chupacabra merely folklore, perpetuated by over-enthusiastic locals immersed in superstition or a penchant for telling tall, exaggerated tales.
Yet you can be sure that we haven’t seen or heard the last of Chupacabra.
4. The Jersey Devil
There is a terrifying creature, they say, that haunts the dense pine barrens of New Jersey, and its frightening appearance earned it the name of The Jersey Devil. The legend of the Jersey Devil dates back to about the mid-1700s when it was considered an omen of disaster or war, but multiple sightings did not begin until the early 1900s. Some researchers claim that more than 2,000 witnesses have reported seeing the creature over the centuries. Although rare, sightings continue up to the present day.
Descriptions vary, but these are the most commonly cited attributes:
It’s interesting to note the similarities to Chupacabra!
Unexplained animal deaths and mutilations have been blamed on The Jersey Devil. Dozens of eyewitnesses claim to have been frightened out of their wits by it. What could this creature possibly be? The theories are similar to those cited for Chupacabra, but something scary definitely seems to be out there in the New Jersey woods.
For about 13 months beginning in November, 1966, a series of bizarre sightings took place around the area of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Aside from a spate of UFO reports and claimed poltergeist activity, several witnesses came forward with descriptions of an astonishing creature that may have been the focal point of all the weird goings-on. As detailed in John Keel’s classic book, The Mothman Prophecies, hundreds of witnesses allegedly saw a large, winged humanoid being.
Here is how they described it:
Dubbed Mothman by a local newspaperman, the creature seemed to have a peculiar affect on those with whom it came into contact: they began to “channel” information from what Keel called “ultra-terrestrial” entities. Keel himself was affected in this way, receiving “prophecies” from some unknown origin that were, more often than not, oddly less than accurate.
6. Elves and Fairies
There aren’t many people who take seriously the existence of elves and fairies in today’s society. Yet there are people who will swear on the heads of their grandchildren that they have seen them with their own eyes – just as plainly as others have seen ghosts, Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster.
The stories of elusive little people are as ancient as civilization itself and can be found in virtually every culture on Earth. Most familiar to us are the legends of elves, dwarfs, leprechauns and trolls from Europe and Scandinavia. They have been the subject of dozens of children’s fairy tales, books, myths and inebriated tales. William Shakespeare made them central characters in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
On a summer night in 1919, 13-year-old Harry Anderson claimed to have seen a column of 20 little men marching in single file, made visible by the bright moonlight. He noted they were dressed in leather knee pants with suspenders. The men were shirtless, bald and had pale white skin. They ignored young Harry as they passed, mumbling something unintelligible all the while.
In Stowmarket, England in 1842, a man claimed this encounter with “faries” when walking through a meadow on his journey home: “There might be a dozen of them, the biggest about three feet high, and small ones like dolls. They were moving around hand in hand in a ring; no noise came from them. They seemed light and shadowy, not like solid bodies. I… could see them as plain as I do you. I ran home and called three women to come back with me and see them. But when we got to the place, they were all gone. I was quite sober at the time.”
Elves and fairies were considered quite real in past cultures, and were a familiar part of their rich folklore. In today’s technological society, perhaps, we’ve simply replaced them in our imaginations with little gray aliens.
7. The Dover Demon
Dover, Massachusetts was the location of the sighting of a bizarre creature for a few days beginning on April 21, 1977. Although the creature, which became known as “the Dover Demon,” was only seen by a few people in this short period of time, it is considered one of the most mysterious creatures of modern times.
The first sighting was made by 17-year-old Bill Bartlett as he and three friends were driving north near the small New England town at around 10:30 at night. Through the darkness, Bartlett claimed to have seen an unusual creature creeping along a low stone wall on the side of the road – something he had never seen before and could not identify. The other boys did not see it, but it was obvious to them that Bartlett was shaken by the experience. When he arrived home, he told his father about his experience and sketched a drawing of the creature.
Just a few hours after Bartlett’s sighting, at 12:30 a.m., John Baxter swore that he saw the same creature while walking home from his girlfriend’s house. The 15-year-old boy saw it with its arms wrapped around the trunk of a tree, and his description of the thing matched Bartlett’s exactly.
The final sighting was reported the next day by another 15-year-old, Abby Brabham, a friend of one of Bill Bartlett’s friends, who said it appeared briefly in the car’s headlights while she and her friend were driving. Again, the description was consistent. This is the creature they allegedly saw:
Subsequent investigations into this unusual case turned up no hard evidence for the reality of the creature, but neither was there evidence of a hoax nor a motive for perpetrating one. Skeptics suggested that what the teenagers saw was a young moose, while UFOlogists who looked into the case wondered if there was an extraterrestrial connection.
8. The Loveland Lizard
This remarkable creature has earned its place in the annals of the unknown primarily because of the credibility of the involved witnesses: two police officers on two separate occasions.
The scene is the early hours of March 3, 1972. A police officer is cruising on Riverside Ave., which runs for a few blocks along the Little Miami River in Loveland, Ohio. On the side of the road he sees what he at first thinks is a dog lying there. He slows his vehicle on the icy road to avoid hitting the animal should it get up and run in front of him. He nears the animal and stops his patrol car, at which point the creature quickly stands on two legs to a crouching position. Illuminating the creature with his headlights, the officer can now clearly see that it is not a dog at all, but something he cannot explain:
Whatever this creature was, it looked at the officer briefly, then leapt over the road’s guard rail toward the river.
The officer reported the odd sighting to the police dispatcher, then later returned to the scene of the incident with another officer. All they found was evidence that something had scraped the hillside as it made its way down to the river.
The creature may have been completely forgotten had not a second police officer seen it again two weeks later. The second officer also at first thought the thing lying in the middle of the road was a dog or roadkill. When he got out of his car to haul it to the side of the road, it got up, climbed over the guard rail this time, all the while keeping its eyes on the officer, and disappeared toward the river. His description of the creature pointed out the same frog-like characteristics. A subsequent investigation uncovered only one other possible sighting around the same time; a farmer claimed to have seen some kind of large, lizard-like creature. It thereafter became known as the Loveland Lizard or Loveland Frog.
What was it? Good question. If is was a frog or similar amphibian, it’s the largest one ever recorded – and the only one known to get up and walk away on its hind legs.
9. Living Dinosaurs
We were all awestruck by the incredibly realistic digital effects of the Jurassic Park movies, and tantalized by the possibility that cloning of long-extinct dinosaurs might one day be possible.
But what if dinosaurs are still alive? What if some dinosaurs have somehow survived extinction to coexist with us today? Some people believe they actually might have. Living dinosaurs!
For over 200 years, rare but fascinating reports have filtered out of the dense isolated rain forests of Africa and South America that native tribes – some of which live very much as they have for thousands of years – were familiar with large creatures that can only be described as resembling sauropods, like the apatosaurus.
The tribes had names for them, such as jago-nini (“giant diver”), dingonek, ol-umaina, and chipekwe. In 1913, Captain Freiheer von Stein zu Lausnitz, a German explorer, was told by Pygmies of a fearsome creature they called mok’ele-mbembe (“stopper of rivers”). This is the description of mok’ele-mbembe provided by the natives:
During an expedition to search for mok’ele-mbembe in 1980, cryptozoologist Roy Mackel and herpetologist James Powell allegedly showed pictures of local animals to the natives, all of which they correctly identified. When they showed them an illustration of a large sauropod, they identified it as mok’ele-mbembe.
Aside from the testimony of these tribespeople (which some skeptics have written off as making fools of the white man), the evidence for living dinosaurs is scant. Supposedly, a few explorers have found extraordinarily large footprints (as large as a Frisbee), and in 1992, a Japanese expedition is said to have about 15 seconds of film footage taken from an airplane that shows some large shape moving in water, leaving a V-shaped wake. Unfortunately, it could not be identified.
Recent expeditions in search of mok’ele-mbembe have taken place. They explored the Likoula region of the Congo for four weeks with the official mission objective of a “scientific investigation and analysis of reports of a living dinosaur.” Unfortunately, again, they returned empty-handed. New expeditions will undoubtedly continue to search for living dinosaurs. The prospect of actually documenting a find is just too tempting.
10. Spring-Heeled Jack
He appeared out of the shadows of 19th century London nights, attacked his victims with dreadful scratches, then bounded away with superhuman ability before he could be apprehended.
The case of Spring-Heeled Jack, as this creature came to be known, is one of the most baffling to come out of Victorian England, and one that has never been solved or fully explained. According to most accounts of the story, the attacks began in 1837 in southwest London. Polly Adams, a pub worker, was one of three women accosted by Spring-Heeled Jack in September of that year. He allegedly tore her blouse off and scratched at her stomach with iron-like fingernails or claws.
His victims painted a bizarre portrait of the ghoul:
The attacks continued into early 1838, prompting official action by the Lord Mayor of London who declared him a public nuisance, and resulting in at least one vigilante group that systematically tried to capture the creature, all without success.
Rumors of sightings persisted into the 1850s, ’60s and ’70s. In these cases, he is said to have frightened people with his appearance, slapped army sentries, and in each case leapt away to the astonishment and frustration of those who tied to catch him. Interestingly, Spring-Heeled Jack never killed or seriously hurt anyone, except 18-year-old Lucy Scales who was reportedly blinded temporarily by the searing blue flames Jack vomited into her face.
Who or what was Spring-Heeled Jack? A clever if diabolical maniac? An alien? A demon? Chances are we will never know, and he will remain one of the most mysterious creatures of modern times.

Hidden for centuries, the ancient Maya city of Holtun, or Head of Stone, is finally coming into focus.
Three-dimensional mapping has “erased” centuries of jungle growth, revealing the rough contours of nearly a hundred buildings, according to research presented earlier this month.
Though it’s long been known to locals that something—something big—is buried in this patch of Guatemalan rain forest, it’s only now that archaeologists are able to begin teasing out what exactly Head of Stone was.
Using GPS and electronic distance-measurement technology last year, the researchers plotted the locations and elevations of a seven-story-tall pyramid, an astronomical observatory, a ritual ball court, several stone residences, and other structures.
(See National Geographic pictures of excavated Maya cities.)
The Maya Denver?
Some of the stone houses, said study leader Brigitte Kovacevich, may have doubled as burial chambers for the city’s early kings.
“Oftentimes archaeologists are looking at the biggest pyramids or temples to find the tombs of early kings, but during this Late-Middle Preclassic period”—roughly 600 B.C. to 300 B.C.—”the king is not the center of the universe yet, so he’s probably still being buried in the household,” said Kovacevich, an archaeologist at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
“That may be why so many Preclassic kings have been missed” by archaeologists, who expected to find the rulers’ burials at grand temples, she added.
The findings at Head of Stone—named for giant masks found at the site—could shed light on how “secondary” Maya centers were organized and what daily life was like for Maya living outside of the larger metropolitan areas such as Tikal, about 22 miles (35 kilometers) to the north, according to Kathryn Reese-Taylor, a Preclassic Maya specialist at Canada’s University of Calgary.
Head of Stone, which has never been excavated, “was not a New York or Los Angeles, but it was definitely a Denver or Atlanta,” said Reese-Taylor, who called the new mapping study “incredibly significant.”
(Get the full story of the rise and fall of the Maya in National Geographic magazine.)
From about 600 B.C. to A.D. 900, Head of Stone—which is about three-quarters of a mile (1 kilometer) long and a third of a mile (0.5 kilometer) wide—was a bustling midsize Maya center, home to about 2,000 permanent residents.
But today its structures are buried under several feet of earth and plant material and are nearly invisible to the untrained eyed.
Even Head of Stone’s three-pointed pyramid—once one of the city’s most impressive buildings—”just looks like a mountain enveloped in forest,” said study leader Kovacevich, who presented the findings at a meeting of the Society for American Archaeology in Sacramento, California.
Jungle Thick as Thieves
Head of Stone is so well hidden, in fact, that archaeologists didn’t learn of it until the early 1990s, and only because they were following the trails of looters who had discovered the site first—perhaps after farmers had attempted to clear the area, according to Kovacevich.
For thieves, the main attractions were massive stucco masks measuring up to ten feet (three meters) tall. Uncovered as looters dug tunnels into the buried city, the heads once adorned some of Head of Stone’s most important buildings.
The temple, Kovacevich said, “would have had these really fabulously, elaborately painted stucco masks flanking the two sides of the stairway that represented human figures, snarling jaguars,” and other forms.
During the Preclassic period, Head of Stone’s important public buildings would have been painted primarily in blood reds, bright whites, and mustard yellows, the University of Calgary’s Reese-Taylor said. Murals of geometric patterns or scenes from myth or daily life would have covered some of the buildings, she added.
King of Stars
During special events at Head of Stone, such as the crowning of a king or the naming of a royal heir, “there would have been a lot of people—not only the 2,000 people living at the site itself but all the people from surrounding areas as well. So, several thousand people,” Reese-Taylor said.
Thick gray smoke and the smell of burning incense would have filled the air. Gazing up at the temple top through this haze, a visitor might have seen “ritual practitioners” performing dances and sacred rituals while adorned with elaborate feathered costumes and jade jewelry.
“During the solstices, you would’ve been able to see the sun rising in line with the eastern structure, and the common people would have thought that the king was commanding the heavens,” study leader Kovacevich said.
The researchers, though, are directing their gaze downward. This summer they hope to begin excavating residential structures and the observatory, as well as to possibly remove the undergrowth from the main temple.
And, by using ground-penetrating radar, they hope to bring Head of Stone into even sharper relief.
By seeing through soil the way the previous mapping project saw through trees and brush, radar should reveal not just the rounded shapes of the city but the hard outlines of the buildings themselves.

Does a creature lurk below the surface of Lake Tahoe?
It’s a big, blue lake. The water is cold and deep. Very deep. In some places the bottom is over 1,600 feet below the surface. Due to icy temperatures and the purity of the water if a person drowns the body often sinks, forever suspended in the frigid depths.
Bigfoot study highlights habitat modelling flaws
Climate change, it turns out, is going to be a mixed blessing for the sasquatch. The legendary American apeman will lose some of its existing habitat in the coastal and lowland regions of the northwestern United States, but gain a lot of new land in the Rocky Mountains and Canada. So say biologist Jeff Lozier of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his colleagues, in an analysis just published in the Journal of Biogeography…

Ogopogo tissue sample?
Kelowna, British Columbia’s Daily Courier is reporting two scientists have agreed to analyze the remains of a mysterious-looking specimen found along the shore of Okanagan Lake. A tissue sample of the creature will be sent to a researcher in Ontario for DNA testing, and the carcasitself will be examined by a scientist in Alberta. The remains were found two weeks ago by Kelowna resident Dan Poppoff as he paddled his kayak near the far end of Lakeshore Road. For now, he’s still got the carcass, which measures more than a metre-long in his freezer at home…

Cop charged with trying to exorcise boy’s demons
A policeman has been stood down after being charged with trying to perform an exorcism on a teenager at a church youth camp in South Australia. Senior Constable Roger Sketchley, 28, has been charged with two other adults over an alleged incident at a camp run by the Lutheran Church in the Barossa Valley in April. Sen-Const Sketchley and other adults allegedly restrained a boy, 15, after he complained of stomach pains in an incident that allegedly went for about 12 hours…
Paranormal investigation at Constantine Theater reveals findings
The Constantine Theater in downtown Pawhuska once having hosted Vaudeville acts, silent movies, operas and original showings of movie classics such as “Gone with the Wind,” is now said to host ghosts. In fact, it is one of the top haunted sites in Oklahoma. People have reported hearing the sound of opening and closing doors, footsteps going up and down the stairs and once reported was a mist seen drifting in the crawl tunnel underneath the theater’s stage. Because of the strange experiences at the building, it has been investigated a number of times, with some of the investigations resulting in recordings of footsteps, a gunshot followed by a gasp and laborious breathing…
Argentina: on-site report on cattle mutilations
Crucesita Tercera in the department of Nogoyá is located some 50 kilometers from the provincial capital. Its habitual peace and quiet were disrupted by reports from a livestock owner involving the apparition of mutilated animals on his property and neighboring ones as well. Another situation that added further mystery to the event was the total emptying of a nearby lagoon. News of these events reached Diario UNO in the city of Paraná, which attracted the locals’ curiosity…
Humanoid sighting in Oregon
From the MUFON open sighting files comes a remarkable account from a man in Oregon. On 06-16-09, he went outside to smoke a cigar. His dog went with him. Soon, he began to notice flashes of light in the sky. It was cloudy at the time, but there were no thunderstorms brewing at the time. The lights seemed to be in, and under the cloud cover. They did not, in any way, look like lightning. While he was watching the lights, he heard a car coming down the road in front of him. Both he and his dog looked in the direction of the vehicle.

UFOs, ETs, and ghosts: skeptical and superstitious Catholics encountering anomalies and miracles
Many devout Catholics are skeptical about UFOs, extraterrestrials, ghosts, and other metaphysical and paranormal activity, yet believe that Jesus rose from the dead, and performed many miracles as are recorded in the Scriptures. Just as interesting is the fact that some Catholic believers are unable to accept the miracle during Mass of the bread and wine being changed into the actual body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, yet have no problem believing what a fortune teller or an astrologer predicts will happen in the future…

Gus B. says he’s had many strange experiences in his life, but nothing comes close to the peculiar encounters he and four friends were met with in the Utah wilderness. This is Gus’s story….
Near the end of May, 2003, my younger brother and I were attending a wedding reception, as a good friend of ours was married that day. The reception was held in Remember The Maine Park, a rural area in Dry Fork Canyon, which is a fifteen-minute drive outside Vernal, Utah.
This canyon has a dark history. There were two suicides in the same year that baffled authorities and the relatives of the deceased. Both men undressed and folded their clothes in a neat stack, then jumped off the cliff side that faces the park. Both men dated the same woman, but at different times, as there was a six-month gap between the “suicides”. Even the police were suspicious of this, as the woman in question was a meth dealer, but I remember nothing ever coming of it. Even so, my friends and I often hung out in this park, practicing martial arts and swordplay. Thus, it was the locale for the reception.
We had fun at the reception, eating, laughing, dancing and generally enjoying the day of celebration. However, a few friends of mine, as well as my brother, wanted to go exploring the woods beyond the park boundaries. My friend Cassidy had mentioned that the area was known for “freaky” occurrences, as he described it. So Cassidy, Brian, David, my brother Tony and I began trekking into the woods. We left around 5 p.m., and the sun was still shining bright at this time.
We traveled for about fifteen minutes or so when we came to a fairly wide clearing. By this time, the temperature had dramatically dropped. And we began to experience an odd, unsettling feeling that seemed to pierce my stomach and make it cold. Cassidy made a comment to the effect that this was “the entrance”.
As we started walking farther, I was struck with the sharp feeling that somehow the ground itself did not want me treading there. I also noticed that the ground for about a hundred yards was littered with the bones of cattle, which gave me the chills. Brushing this feeling aside, we continued our trek for another ten minutes or so.
We came to an area in the woods that was thick and a little too dark for the day. My brother tapped me on the shoulder and quietly said to me, “Do you see that?” About fifteen yards away in the thick woods was a distinguishable dark shape that was huge. It looked like a gorilla sitting on its knuckles, but it was completely black, and far too tall to be a bear, as it was about seven feet tall in this crouching position!
At about this time, everyone else in the group took notice to the huge, dark shape. With some quiet caution and a leery eye, we continued our trek into the woods – in a different direction, I might add. The trees were rustling and swaying, but there was no wind; the air was at a dead standstill. This spooked Tony, so my brother decided he had seen enough, and my friend Cassidy agreed to take him back to the park. That left Brian, David and I behind to wait for him.
By this time, nightfall had already descended upon us. This disturbed me considerably, as we had left at 5 and weren’t even an hour into our “journey”.
Suddenly, we began to hear odd hooting sounds coming from the trees. Brian called them “Indian hoots,” but I suggested that it was an owl. My suggestion proved incorrect, as the hooting sounds intensified and came from places where I knew there was no source, like a spot a few feet away from my head in the air, and the ground next to my feet.
At this point, things were definitely getting weird, but it was about to get worse.
As we continued to wait for Cassidy to return, David seemed to be having an odd sort of panic attack. He could barely speak, almost as if some entity was trying to keep him from speaking, and he seemed genuinely terrified by something. Brian held his hand and tried to talk him down, without much success.
While this was happening, their backs faced the woods, with me facing into it. Out of nowhere, red eyes flashed out of the darkness at me. It was gone before I could ask if anyone else had seen it. Brian was still trying to help David, when a few minutes later eyes flashed at me from the darkness again, only the eyes were ten more yards or so to the right than last time.
I asked Brian if he saw the eyes, and indeed he had caught it out of the corner of his eye. David seemed to be calming down just a bit, when both Brian and I saw the eyes for the third time, another good distance more to the right in the woods. Somehow, we were behind enemy lines, and I had a feeling that if we didn’t leave soon, something really bad might happen. The fact that David’s fragmented tirade centered around demons didn’t help at all.
Finally, Cassidy returned, and I noticed that things were a little brighter. As fate would have it, there was a full moon shining down on us, and I was once again flabbergasted that the moon was out, when we had only been in the woods a little over an hour. Cassidy then asked us if we wanted to continue deeper into the woods. Brian, David and I all agreed that it was best we return to the park.
Once again the trees began swaying and rustling, as if there were a strong wind blowing, except there wasn’t even the slightest of breezes blowing at all. We started walking back, and my friends began running suddenly. I was about to yell at them for running off, but I got a “twinge” as I call them.
I turned around to see a good number of grayish-white humanoid figures running, blinking and just basically freaking out. The thing that got me running is that they were rapidly heading our way!
It was a miracle I caught up with the guys at all. And it seemed that the wide open clearing we passed through a little over an hour ago had shrunken so drastically. I am confident it was no trick of the eye. The woods were actually closing in.
After running for about fifteen minutes or so, we were back in the park. Fortunately, a few of our friends at the reception remembered that we took off, and had waited around for us. Imagine my shock when I learned it was 11:15 p.m.! I know for a fact that the amount of time we spent in there could not have exceeded an hour and a half at the very most! And yet, six hours had gone by!
We rode home, relating the events to some of our other friends who happen to be Wiccan. All of the Wiccans I spoke to who are familiar with that area agree that some thing very bad happened there, and local legend has it that several years ago 200 head of cattle dropped dead of mysterious circumstances in that place. Whatever the case may be, something intense calls that area home, and I am not eager to return there anytime soon.
Johannesburg – A ‘monster’ plaguing the sleepy Karoo town of Steytlerville struck again over the Easter weekend, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Another two sightings of the “shape-shifting creature” were reported on Sunday evening, said Warrant Officer Zandisile Nelani .
“Two men were walking near a tavern when they saw another man wearing a black jacket. One of the men, identified only as Nozipho, went up to the stranger and asked him, “What is your problem?” said Nelani.
A dog or a cow?
When the stranger did not respond, Nozipho went closer and saw that the man had no head. The man then turned into a dog that was “very angry” and “as big as a cow”, Nelani said.
He said that as Nozipho and his friend ran away, the monster allegedly turned on another group of people in the same road. “They said it turned into a big monkey, and then it was gone,” Nelani said.
He said that since the monster was spotted near the tavern, people were afraid to go there at night.
Last week police were told by residents that the monster changed shape while one looked at it. One man had reported that it changed from a man wearing a suit into a pig and then into a bat.
There had also been rumours that the monster could fly. Previously, the monster had only been spotted near the church. It had even been seen peering through the windows during a service, but had vanished by the time the congregation came outside.
Nelani said that the community had dubbed the monster “Bawokozi”, meaning ‘brother-in-law’.
Sightings of the monster began over a month ago when it was seen by mourners attending two separate funerals, Nelani said.
He said that the community requested a meeting with police because they were frightened of it. Police agreed to work with residents, but asked them to try to take a photograph of it as evidence.
Nelani said that a photograph had since been taken of the monster resting under a tree.
He said that when the photo was taken the monster had been in human form but when the photo was developed an unknown animal was visible in the picture.
“It is a very strange thing happening in Steytlerville, but no one has been hurt by it,” Nelani said.
UFO sightings for 2011. There’s even more sightings taking place world-wide now. The evidence is here and it’s very clear folks…someone in our universe has taken interest in us and there’s really something going on here! We’re past the point of this just being a sighting seen by someone who had a few to many. It’s now gotten to the point that it’s simply to obvious to ignore!
Here’s just a few of many, many videos taken of these UFO’s as seen all over the world:
Your feedback is wanted! If you have any sightings or encounters to share, this is the place to do it!
This book titled, Ufo Sightings: The Evidence is one I highly recommend on this growing trend! Want more info on our galactic neighbors? Crash: When UFOs Fall From the Sky: A History of Famous Incidents, Conspiracies, and Cover-Ups is another book that will definitely capture your attention and feed your hunger for conspiracy theory as well. We are most certainly NOT alone!
You’ve read the stories, seen the tv shows and heard the rumors, though it never seems to be enough. Are aliens invading, have they already or is our historical understanding all an elaborate cover up that the powers don’t want us knowing? Yunno, I cant help but think that as fantastical and fictitious as X-files presented itself, it may have been based on truth rather than the inner workings of creative minds. Well, as the Steigers bring us another tasty entry into the alien hall of fame, there is plenty here for everybody to pick from.
In fact, what I liked best about the book is that it’s not your usual lethargic drawn out page turner but rather short reports and quips from a variety of places and sources that give us alot in little bits. My first impression was how easy I found it to just flip forward or back to the desired sections of interest. Whether it’s the grays, the lizard folk, the greens, the hybrids or just strange places both on and off earth….your sure to find some satisfaction in your exploration here.
I tend to gravitate to the cover-ups and the “what’s-been-going-on” reports that focus on government involvement and the “come-forward-witnesses” needing to get things off their chests. As we move past these strange and wild tales of presumed non-fiction, we learn about a race or “races” who by careful collaboration have kept the secrets of the worlds from us. If this is true and very well could be, what are we being protected from?…and why?
Are we to believe in TV-like stories that sound much like the stuff we watch for relaxation………maybe so. The Steigers and friends don’t mess around. They have spent the time it needs to bring forward these isolated incidents large or small. While some of the chapters focus more on the beings themselves other tackle the bigger picture announcements. The kind that are looming overhead!
“Real Aliens” tackles a number of short reports on secret lairs, sightings and abduction stories that all point to some level of interaction or proof of alien life forms. What is more disturbing is the government level involvement hinted at revealed as going on for quite some time. We’ll read about ties to the lost Atlantis, about underground bases, about levels deep, about sectors dedicated to experimentation and several more unexplained reportings that span back into the 40′s and 60′s.
Is 2012 the year that we make contact? Has the aliens been guiding our hands in the evolution chain or are we all just some form of an elaborate experiment that has come almost full circle? The facts are too intriguing not to raise a few eyebrows and wonder if the time has come for full revelation. The Steigers do a bang up job on not only presenting the short tidbits, but doing so in a way that seem to draw reader interest from page to page. I think this fact alone keeps me coming back to these books and flipping thru.. It sure is alot to consume but don’t say they never told us so….. killer stuff for UFO fans and unexplained materials alike.
Three Illinois children report being surrounded by “a perfect rectangle of green flashing lights” with no apparent source while experiencing a feeling of being targeted and a “strange warmth,” according to April 26, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
While walking to one of their homes, the three pre-teens report stopping when they realized they were surrounded by green flashing lights in a triangle formation. The lights also “seemed to pulse.”
“They were moving around us, and I remember feeling like they were targeting us, almost as if they were tracking our location and movements so we could be captured without injury,” the reporting witness stated. “There were at least three of us standing on that corner, and at the same time (after about two minutes beneath the lights), we all screamed and started running like we had never run the last block to the safe refuge of our friend’s house.”
The three talked about the experience when they arrived at their destination.
“When we got there, we all compared how we experienced it and found that all of us felt the same things – like they were targeting us, and we all noticed that when the lights passed over our flip-flop exposed toes, we felt a strange warmth coming from them that was uncharacteristic of a still summer evening. Not to mention that this heat was focused solely on the patch that it covered, and the heat vanished the second it moved.”
All three witnesses looked up to see what the light source was and could not see anything.
“This meant that there was no possible way they had been from a plane or jet, because we obviously would have seen and heard it.”
When the witnesses ran, the light moved away. The incident occurred on July 13, 2010. No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the MUFON report. No images or videos were included with the report.
Illinois is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating, with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. Illinois had 8 UFO reports in March 2011 – while California had 45 sightings, the highest reporting state in the nation.

IL, July 13, 2010 – At least four green flashing lights with no source. MUFON Case # 28827.
Every night last summer a few friends and myself would hang out at a local park late into the night. One night midway through July, we decided it was getting late and we should head to one of the girl’s house a block away.
We had reached the corner of the block that the playground was on when all of us suddenly stopped. We were surrounded in an almost perfect rectangle of green flashing lights, and they almost seemed to pulse.
They were moving around us, and I remember feeling like they were targeting us, almost as if they were tracking our location and movements so we could be captured without injury. There were at least three of us standing on that corner, and at the same time (after about two minutes beneath the lights) we all screamed and started running like we had never run the last block to the safe refuge of our friend’s house.
When we got there, we all compared how we experienced it and found that all of us felt the same things-like they were targeting us, and we all noticed that when the lights passed over our flip-flop exposed toes, we felt a strange warmth coming from them that was uncharacteristic of a still summer evening.
Not to mention that this heat was focused solely on the patch that it covered, and the heat vanished the second it moved.
Another thing we all remembered was that when we looked up in unison, we saw no source for the lights. This meant that there was no possible way they had been from a plane or jet, because we obviously would have seen and heard it.
Looking back on the memories only moments later, we all agreed that when we had started to run, the lights flew away in opposite directions and disappeared after mere seconds. Pulsing lights that targeted a bunch of pre-teens that had no visible source? I can’t speak for you, but I don’t consider that a coincidence.
A Huntington, IN, witness reports watching a “translucent disk-shaped symmetrical object” hovering 25 feet over a nearby parking lot, according to April 22, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness walked out of his apartment at 10 p.m. on April 13, 2011, and noticed the object.
“The object I saw was translucent and obscuring the background night sky and apartment buildings and trees, though, not blocking the background out,” the witness stated.”The shape was more like a distortion of the background, much like the image one sees when looking at one’s reflection in a pool of water.”
The witness described the object.
“The shape was symmetrically disk-shaped and did not change. I could not see any edges or seams of physical material. It was as if the object was rapidly ionizing the air around the edges of the shape forming a thin fog that would dissipate but was continuously being generated. It was spontaneously generated in a circular pattern much like it seemed the effect of dry ice has when placed in ambient air. It was a cloudless night, cool, and slightly humid. The moon was beside the disk, high in the sky, slightly yellowish, waxing.”
The object was completely silent. The witness says he did not experience any missing time.
The witness watched the object for 10 minutes, and also saw the neighbor moving indoors. The witness then walked to the other side of the parking and watched odd lights in the sky, but upon looking back at the original object, discovered that it was gone.
“No fog remained. Total event time was about 20 minutes. No evidence of anything the day after. No other witnesses observed the objects except for my neighbor and I.”

IN, April 13, 2011 – ouside apt., saw translucent lense-shaped disk hovering above parking lot with steam generated around edges. MUFON Case # 28759.
At approximately 10 pm on 4/13/11, I exited my apt. in Huntington, Indiana to smoke a cigar in the parking lot. Upon sitting down to smoke on my front walkway, I looked up and saw a translucent disk-shaped symmetrical object directly above the parking lot, approximately 25 feet high in the air.
I was initially surprised, though, having seen a UFO once before in Summer 2008 (four large white lights rotating clockwise and couterclockwise while simultaneously beaming a white light down to the ground to form a inverted pyramid shape; the white balls of light were in formation to my Northeast and travelling about 70 mph approximately 5 miles east of I-65 and 300 feet up, they tracked my vehicle as I was proceeding southbound on I-65 in-between Franklin and Edinburgh, Indiana and never passed my position) but never this close, I was not afraid or overly shocked.
The object I saw was translucent and obscuring the background night sky and apartment buildings and trees, though, not blocking the background out; the shape was more like a distortion of the background, much like the image one sees when looking at one’s reflection in a pool of water. The shape was symmetrically disk shaped and did not change. The moon was beside the disk, high in the sky, slightly yellowish, waxing.
I didn’t hear any sound coming from the object, I experienced no missed time to my knowledge, but a thought kept recurring in my mind 3 or 4 times in the first few seconds of seeing the object above the parking lot. This thought was that the disk was some sort of amplification device used to amplify and focus thoughts and signals or messages between the moon and points or people on the Earth. This thought may have been my own justification for identifying something unknown, but I just had a very strong FEELING this was correct without any doubt at all. I hold a BS in biochemistry and MBA, and, by nature, I am skeptical of UFOs and aliens, though open to the possibility that both exist. I watched the shape for about 10 minutes and was just sort of hypnotized by it. It felt good to watch it; calming. It was beautiful. I enjoyed watching it so much that I didn’t even think about going inside to get my camera nor did I apparently feel any desire to photograph it!
The strangest thing about the whole experience is what my neighbor said as I turned to see him enter his apartment next door. I didn’t see him pull up into the parking lot or open his door, but I caught a glimpse of him while he was entering his apartment. On his way inside the door, he said, “Don’t look at me, they’ll know what I look like!” He was in a hurry to go inside it seemed and very fearful. I had only briefly talked with him on one occasion 2 months prior to the night of the sighting and have since moved away from the area.
After looking back at the UFO which was still there hovering steady without any apparent wobbling motion, I walked to the other side of the parking lot to look at the stars in the western sky and saw what appeared to be numerous shooting stars falling straight down to Earth in various directions on the horizon both West and East of my location while 5-7 lights or what looked like stars or star-sized lights that were stationary seemed to rotate clockwise and counterclockwise periodically. Four of these stars seemed particulary active in localized movements. They seemed to form a isoceles trapezoidal shape in the sky with the two bottom lights. It appeared as if the bottom two lights were closer to Earth than the top two.
I watched the sky for about 5 minutes while I finished my cigar then turned back to my apartment. The disk was gone without any trace that it had been there. No fog remained. Total event time was about 20 minutes. No evidence of anything the day after. No other witnesses observed the objects except for my neighbor and I.
What a Catholic clergyman in New Mexico experienced may remind some of uncanny visitations — supernatural or extraterrestrial — but there were other elements at play. These became better known after Bishop Donald Edmond Pelotte made an unusual 911 call to the police on September 27, 2007. Pelotte, 62, told the phone operators that in his hall were “…gentle little people, about 3 to 4 feet tall, […] wearing Halloween masks….”
The McKinley Metropolitan Dispatch Authority log noted that Pelotte, of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico, spoke of hiding in the closet while all this was happening. He gave the operators differing accounts. One of his stories was that a single little person first visited and then the rest followed. The time period was in question too.
When the Gallup police arrived, they found no one but Pelotte at his home, where the Bishop had been recuperating.
Pelotte had taken a fall at his home on July 22, 2007, and he told Timoteo Lujan, the Deacon who found him, that he had fallen. Emergency room physicians, though, assumed Pelotte had been attacked. He had suffered serious head injuries, the facial injuries of which inhibited his speech as of July 27 at Phoenix’s John C. Lincoln Hospital. (He had no problem recognizing hospital visitors at that time.) Treatment was conducted at hospitals and recovery centers in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Florida. There was in August a controversy over whether police photos taken on July 23 of the injured Pelotte were part of the public record. This came after media outlets requested access to them. The question was still about whether he had been beaten or had suffered an accident.
Back in 2004, a former seminary student named Derek Kolb had told police that he had attempted to poison an elderly Catholic sister so that he could get more attention from Father Thomas Malkowski, and in 2005 Kolb threatened to kill Pelotte. The situation concluded with a series of hearings on Kolb’s probation revocation. Deacon Lujan made it known that Pelotte had worried about Kolb. Pelotte had received an apology card from Kolb in mid-2007.
Finally, during mid-December 2007, Pelotte announced that he was taking a medical leave of absence from his duties, and had informed officials at the Vatican. A formal announcement was made on January 3, 2008. This was followed by his resignation as Bishop of Gallup, New Mexico, in late April.
As far as the media was concerned, ambiguities remained. Not apparently discussed was how Pelotte’s perceptions were affected by his massive head injuries and their aftermath — except for the early news stories of his being aware of his surroundings and people while in the hospital. Despite its traumatic beginnings, the eventual news story about Pelotte and his possible visitors was often treated almost as if it were a joke.
The type of experience Pelotte’s alleged encounter appeared to be, as well as its location, did not go unnoticed. Tom Barnes, who posted on Scott Dodge’s blog at http://scottdodge.blogspot.com, pointed out on May 2, 2008, that what Bishop Pelotte told the police was a “CLASSIC UFO abduction report….” Barnes also mentioned that New Mexico is “the UFO abduction capital of the world!”
A close friend and god-father to my wife had passed away today. A man who had invested many years of his life to the pursuit of knowledge of the human mind. He had been a psychologist, addictions specialist etc., and a person who had researched and studied major religions and the relations to our past and present. A man who had a great deal of knowledge of the paranormal and much more.
I had planned on doing an interview with him on his past experiences (and there were many!) and posting a podcast of that interview here at the site. I will regret not doing that a lot sooner than this. So much experience and knowledge will never be shared now.
Here’s in memory to a good friend, a loved family member and a person who now is able to gain answers to so many questions, gain truths about many mysteries as he has now transitioned from our mortal life, into true immortality.
May your journey be forever filled with answers & truths to the greatest questions we have dared to ask.
